Default Call the "HOON" hotline in VIC?

Hey all, we'll on my way home today, cruising down a main HWY there’s this tool driving his VN commodore, mainly red, different colours here n there, P plater. So he's changing lines across 3 to the left and back to the right a minute later, speeding, threw a can out the window, tailgating people, stops at the lights n does a burnout (single pegger) in full traffic at 2pm in the arvo.

most of these things wouldn’t bother me except the tailgating mainly as it is so obviously dangerous, so I got the guys rego, my question is should I call this "hoon" hotline that everyone (including me) is/was against or not?

The other thing that ****s me is this idiot gives every other P plater a bad name, and then because people affiliate P platers with modded cars, then we all get tarred with the same brush, so to speak.

Also can these people who are “dobbed” in get my details by any chance?

What do you guys reckon?

Personally I think there are enough do gooders in the world already, I mean every time I may have broken traction or been less than perfect on the roads, I wouldnt want someone else ringing and dobbing me in like a school kid, you are then only adding to the Police and State Government coffers and its you in the end who will be out of pocket and or time, as they will issue possibly a fine, and or something else, and you will be required to spend the day or 2 PROVING your case in court..

I personally would maybe have just pulled up beside, sussed him/her out and maybe said DUDE wiked Vn there man...but the fuzz are everywhere, settle the hell down dude, or your pride and joy will be confiscated....ROCK ON BOGAN!!!!!

OK I feel better.

Tough one.
Weaving can be dangerous, throwing stuff out of the car can be very dangerous. Tailgating can be dangerous. I've not seen a single spinner causing any fatalities.

You could always phone and "dob" him in for littering, that's about the extent I'd go to.
I'm very against the new hooning laws for vic.

Why report to the hoon hotline (and potentially make a hypocrite of yourself)? Cant you just call the cops and report him for the offences which you feel strongly about? i.e. tailgating and littering cans from the car...

Dont dob him in leave that for the granny's. You should have just gave him a death stare and shook your head so he'd realise he's not that cool.

yer i agree with most posts and wanted opinons as thats why i posted, but still not sure.

MYVYSS - dont get me wrong, i have seen plenty of cars doing burnouts or "loosing traction" and it doesnt really fuss me, its mainly the thing of driving like an idiot and as said above i feel he's an acident waiting to happen. How would you feel if someone like this ploud into the back of your car? whilst it all could have been prevented by getting idiots like this off the road, if we all make a few phone calls. I am against the hotline as i see it like you all do, been abused and getting us inocent drivers for doing somthing minor.

So, to call or not to call? what would you do?

How can what you witnessed be proven by calling the hoon hotline if no-one else calls.

Say if i had a SS Commodore, and someone in a nice XR6 Turbo comes up to me and kills me in a drag and i lose. Can i then call the Hoon hotline and complain that he's a hoon simply because he smoked me and he had a ford etc?

Don’t dob him in, let some Camry driving do-gooder do that and mind your own business. This retard will get what’s coming to him, either from the law or a telephone pole. The amount of people ringing up the coppers and dobbing in people is beyond the joke.

Not only is it un Australian, it’s un bloke worthy.

And if you do decide to dob him in, you’d best keep it to yourself.

i would say dont.

while his behavior is obviously stupid, does that mean he is a hoon?. throwing litter isnt "hooning", changing lanes isnt "hooning". the best he did, in regards to actual "hooning" is a one wheel spinner.

he is a cr@p driver and i would love for a coppa to pull him up (would require them to wake up and pack up the camera though) but he isnt really a hoon.

and at the end of the day the government will stand up proudly and say:

"these hoon laws we invented have been justified because x people rang up the hotline to complain (you will be one of those) so these laws will stay forever - arent we a great government".

and you would feel guilty...

and so should anyone who calls the line.

option a: dont call them.
option b: call them - then trade-in the xw for a lovely beige camry.

Whilst i dont necisarily disagree with your sentiments - its very rare that a day goes by on these forums without a "can you believe what i saw some doing on the road" thread getting started. Often followed by a series of posts along the lines of:

"What an idiot"
"It should be THEIR cars that are getting impounded, not the enthusiasts"
"I saw someone doing that too!"

So... it's ok to ingore these acts of idiocy on our roads, but then jump onto an internet forum and whinge about it? I'd hold that sort of behaviour in a similar light to lagging on someone...

Again i would reiterate - i dont disagree with your post (although if you have some more information on what it takes to be "australian" and "bloke-like" i could probably stand to brush up on these skills).

I'm wondering what the response would be if, instead of "dob in a hoon", the thread starter had used the term "report dangerous driving to the police". I know its only semantics but perception of motive can be a great divider!

ok sorry for my ignorance but how doe's this phone line work is it the same as the littering one whre you have to be "dobbed" on 3 times the they fine you and if so if i had a beef with someone with a hot car can i just ring up on 3 different occasions and then get his car towed i guess what im asking is how do they proove any allegations on this hoon hotline cause if it is this way then there are some pretty major hole's here sorry if this has been explained elswhere

: OH NO!!! If these are my only options then I can’t call, I'll commit suicide before I buy a Camry, especially a beige one!!! :togo:

I think I won’t call; I don’t want to give the government the pleasure of saying that they have control over us, haha they wish. I know it wasn’t too bad but it just irritates me that he's giving me and all my mates who are P platers a bad name.

I hope he hits a pole first and not another car, or a person. Good to see I can rely on the Ford Forums to set me straight.

I myself would do him for littering. If his seat was leaned right back and his head was past the B pillar with his cap on backwards, then he deserves everything he gets
Seriously, these laws are a joke. The granny down the road who can't see over the dash, drives in the right lane doing 40k and stops at giveway signs is a top notch driver in their book. We are all classified hoons if we cog it back to 2nd and blow past her.

I'd say definately do it, the guys obviously a retard and needs a little bit of justice to be coming his way.

He's driving irresponsibly - and doesn't have enough brains to realise that there is a time and a place for everything, and obviously 2pm single pegger burnouts at lights isn't the right time nor the right place.

Report him- before he kills some kids.

I thought the Hoon hotline got dropped because there were people getting reported that wern't in the area, or even had cars that were functioning at the time. But people were dobbing them in just to be assho1es?

If it really outrages you then report it to the police.
Nothing will come of it, but it will be noted and next time he's pulled up it will contribute to him getting the boot in court.

Hoon hotline is useless. He will say that he didnt do it. His word vs yours = you will waste your time.

Just leave it to the camry drivers.

My sister did this some time back, A car was passing on the wrong side of the road in the morning for 4 weeks straight doing more then 100kp/h. He almost had 10 head-ons but this didn't stop him. When she reported him after getting to see his plate for once he was already reported about 10 others so he's car went missing in the next week and it hasn't been seen again, I think he lost his licence for 12 months.

Report it to the local police rather than the hotline

I lived in Barwon Heads a small coastal town of about 3000 people in winter, and one of my friends got a visit from the local police on his doorstep and said basically that there have been several reports of inappropriate driving including doing burnouts in the beach GRAVEL car parks and "alleged drink driving", but the police were never there to witness this, they said if they catch him.....well he won't be driving for a while
Oh yeah he had an 80's model Nissan pintara wagon....
I think reporting it to city copper won't have the same effect as it would in smaller communities

Call the EPA for littering.

It's a tough one IMO. He's driving like a freaking idiot and he deserves to get a foot up the arse. I know the "Hoon line" can easily be abused by "Camry driving idiots", but what if he gets enough complaints to put the loser off the road before he smacks into someone's family? But by calling the hotline you're supporting some silly government concept...

Report him to the local smokey (police) like suggested.
