Occassionally, maybe once or twice a week, there is a noise that comes from what sounds like a quick dull scratch sound. The noise comes up within 2-3 seconds from initial acceleration.
 : The noise has never occurred after 7-10 seconds of driving. So it seems that a part of something is readjusting just before the car takes off. Are there any one of you who have experienced this noise from the ford falcon au1 model? and is it one of the standard complaints on this type of car? It is difficult to diagnose without being able to drive the car and hearing and feeling the slight scratching sound yourself. What do you guys suggest is the best way to go about identifying this sound? I am a bit illiterate with cars so cannot really identify the source of the noise - i just hear and feel it from time to time. thanks |

location of noise? front, back,engine,diff,gearbox,inside the car,etc it will help to isolate the noise as the car is a big unit with lots of moving parts. is it V8 or 6 auto or manual, independent rear or not? does it only happen after the handbrake is used? when you turn the steering wheel does it get louder? when you apply the brakes does it go away? if you select 1st instead of drive is it still there? try some different things and see if you can get with in 1 mtr of the noise .

I've had this same problem on a number of different types of cars. Prob a loose mounting bracket or a bung wheel bearing - lol
Funny story - I had a VK Commodore - same prob - took it to the mechanic - and he replaced the bearing. Two days later the noise came back and i took it too another mechanic. After looking under the bonnet for a while and couldn't find anything, he slammed the lid down, and whart falls out? Why the engine mount it did. Car stayed there for a while after that. Sorry to hijack your thread. |

My Ford is a au1 series so it is a straight 6, 4 ltr engine with auto transmission.
I do not think the noise happens after each handbrake change necessarily and it does not get louder with the steering. I dont have the time to apply the brakes while the noise comes on as the noise only last for about 1 sec. I will keep trying to concentrate on listening where the sound is coming from. Maybe I should turn the head unit off more often and maybe i will be closer to the noise. When I brought the car for trans service the mechanic told me about a certain noise. I forgot what he said but i will ask him again and come back to you guys, maybe that will get me closer to the noise. |
