I apologise if I am submitting this thread to the wrong Topic. I have a tow bar on my Fairmont Ghia and I want to remove the tow ball. I have dowsed the nut with WD40 and am using the biggest wrench I have - I do not have a breaker bar. I still can not budge the nut and I have tried everything in the way of leverage that I have at my disposal. :
I do not want the destroy the nut or the tow ball as I will most likely need them again. I just want to remove the tow ball to install a shin guard. Any suggestions would be most gratefully accepted. :

Try some heat.
But, they're dirt cheap, so buy a new ball .........

mate use a oxy and try keep the heat on the nut.. as abouve they are cheap any how.. and i know this sounds silly but are you turning it anti-clockwise its easy to not realise especially when your looking down on it then you can get it mixed up.. not saying your doing it wrong but a easy mistake when looking at the blot from the other way..

Try getting a pipe to extend the wrench handle. The longer the handle, the more torque you can apply, the easier it will to move the nut... or shear it off. lol

Those tow ball nut are pretty big, so why not use a ball pein hammer and solidly tap on every flat side a few times then use your wrench and repeat the process over and over. This will usually crack any rust bead in the thread.
A normal carpenters hammer would also do the job if a ball pein one is not available. This method will soon get you blacksmiths biceps if nothing else. lol. |

Dont use a ratchet, easy way to go A over T when they let go. Get a decent breaker bar or T handle and use a bit of pipe on that
