Default cheap car should i get a au xr8 or ba xt or vy exceutive

Ok Guys im buying a cheap runabout to use for a year or so till i buy a VE SS V next year. Now what do people think I have just been offered a 99 AU XR8 with 300k on the clock for $7000 is that a good deal? should i buy it?

or can get a 180k ba xt 6cyl for around $10000 or a VY executive 6cyll similar klms & price to the BA.

which would you guys go. & what do you think of a XR8 with those klms for that price?

thanks

Cheap runabout = no v8. Unless it's on gas, your defeating the purpose of buying it.
I'd go with an AU 6cyl on gas, or even look for something else.

Agreed, a V8 is not a cheap car by any means, if fuel doesnt kill you, the mod bug will :hihi:

And $7k for a 300,000km XR8 is a total rip.

Go the AU XR8

1) It will still be worth something and easy to sell when you are finished, the BA and VY will definitely be worth less IMHO.

2) You will be able to use $3,000 worth of fuel before you catch up to the price of the other two. That’s also assuming that you don't put fuel into the other purchases because if you did the gap would be wider and take longer to close.

3) You won't get bored of the car as quick!

Make sure both the motor and trannie are good. 300K kms may see the need for the heads to come off or there could be some problems with the trannie. Neither is cheap to fix.

I guess you need to ask if yourself if you want apples or oranges?

A 6cyl BA wouldnt be that much better on fuel than an AU XR8 anyway. Probably the best of the 3 would be the Commy.

The XR8 probably would have done the job for a year I would have thought before dying with those kays, depending on how it's been looked after. My old 5 litre ef is still running fine with 315000 kays on it, and now it's in the hands of a mate who isn't fanatical about cars (read: he doesn't look after it very well).

If its just a runabout just go a series 1 AU Forte. Cheap and reliable.

I think you could get a series 3 au with above average kms.

I just picked a 2002 AU III SR sedan for 5k. Its done 178K Kms, however I think it drives better than my AU1 Ghia.

Utes could be had from about 4k, however that would buy you AU1 with 300k.

why buy a BA or VY when your planing on upgrading next year anyway? these cars start around $15,000, (VY prob abit cheaper) then expect to loose a few thousand dolars in depreciation.

IMO your better off buying a cheap $2-$3,000 runaround 4 cylender, cheap to buy, cheap to run and basically no depreciation. then u may even be able to afford a better car then the SS

Out of the three options you are looking at, BA XT Fashizzle!

But for a cheap runabout, what about an EF/EL XR6? Or a VS S, if you're that way inclined... lol
