Default IRS axel broken

While driving the AU today I heard a thumping noise from the left in the rear of the car...i'm guessing that it has broken the axel joint/s. anyone know how much this is going to cost and is it an easy job to fix?

Cheers RspecAU (Mark)

Mark,
having had a broken axle in a BA IRS I can pretty well assure you that you haven't broken it. LSD or not, mine had no drive when it went.
Might pay to rip the wheel off and have a look.

Its your shock rubber.. its finally let go completely. Pull the kiddy seat oud, drop the rear seat and have a look behind the panel.. its probably got half a shock absorber poking through it.

I had the thumping noise in mine. It was the shock mounts. Had them replace and it was as good as new.

whats a shock mount worth??
im presuming its the top part of the strut that is rubber??

with the metal bit in the middle

i carved the guts out of 2 of these..(all the rubber)
the metal piece in the middle is an hour glass shape 1 end is fatter than the other and only comes out 1 way(to prevent it falling ALL the way out i guess)

After getting the wheel off and having a close look at what is wrong I found that the rotor had a lot of movment in it. I removed the hub and found that the bearing were shot which has also stuffed the hub. I have tracked down a second hand hub assembly for $275 hate to see what a new is worth.

Cheers Mark

All mine look good all tho i didn't get to look at the inner bushes but i would say they would be the one that you woule need to have pressed out. The outer bushes look easy enough to change but then again things can look easy.

Well the AU is going again but not after a few problems, while giving it a test run the halfshaft poped out of the diff. I must of pulled it out with out knowing. I got it back and fixed that but i will be getting it at closly real soon. A big thanks to G&D for lending me a 35mm socket to undo/tighten the big nut on the end of the axel thank guys i would of been stuffed without that.

Cheers Mark
