Default Loosing Performance?

As some of you know, I recently fitted a new motor to my car.

Reco 3.9 Block
Reco EF 4.0 Head
Currently running a EA cam, but will be upgraded within 2 weeks.

I was using the EA airbox, EA Airbox piping, ED Snorkle.

I recently replaced the ED snorkle with a XH one as my ED one got a little crushed (Thats another story), but thought an XH one would make the car a little quicker or at least the same. But its slower?

The car doesnt take off as well anymore, I have to push on the acelerator more now, and now feels more like im driving with my old motor???

Is this even possible????

The wierd thing is, i put the ED one back on and it was like it was.

The main difference is that it doesnt seem to kick down as quick with it? If thats even possible????

Maybe your engine has decided to go against the basic laws of internal combustion engines and decided that it'd like less air to go with the factory rich fuel mixture...only explanation I know of!

the difference between snorkels IMO is bugger all anyway, but the effect still shouldnt be detremental!

I dont think doing such a little mod like that would worry it. Take the airbox lid off and go for a quick drive and see what it does.

u should reset the ecu, i think it could[?] solve the problem. i put one on my EB, reset ecu, took it for a spin and could easily feel the difference. mine is modded though, cut the two pipes things and basically made it into one big chamber. mine could be a different situation though.

i would take up your offer Walkinshaw but ur a bit far away, and plus i dont think mine meets original xh originality anymore.....

also just thought that maybe the cam could be the problem (more so if cfi as they might be different to EA MPefi- dunno correct me if wrong please). but being originally designed for a lower compression, extremely low flowing head in comparison to the ef style and totally different fuel and ignition requirements. The cam might need the snorkel for that tiny bit more airspeed/possible volumetric issue or something.

very similar in how a smaller airfilter (say 14" x 1.5" type) is said to give more power on a 4v cleveland than a 14" x 3" type.

Mick, if you wanted to try them, I have my old EA injectors sitting here.

Try resetting the ECU first, if that doesn't help then you're welcome to give them a go ;)

Naw, Placebo as in you think it does something, it sounds like it does something, but in reality you just spent 30 bucks on a bit of plastic when you could of spent 30 bucks on a slab.

Well i found out whats causing my car to lag like crazy. My diff has gotten alot worse.

you know the normal Single Spinner action? Well mine now makes a really loud Wining sound when driving, and while having the back of the car off the ground this avo, I noticed that when one wheel is spun the other doesnt move and there is a large amount of grinding kinda sounds comming from the middle.

ANYONE GOT A EA DIFF????!!!!!!! Ill take EB if its in working order

placebo is a medical term.

i don't know why i just found that odd.. haha. :|

Placebo : a medication prescribed more for the mental relief of the patient than for its actual effect on a disorder.

that's just ONE example. lol.

it's all about the cars!!!

if you guys are saying that a stock xh snorkel doesnt make a difference then id have to agree as there isnt much difference in volume.

but try opening up the middle and it just about doubles the volume, there is no doubt in my mind the xh snorkel (and the time taken to modify it) was worth it.

The XH snorkel DOES flow more, but most likely a stock(ish) car doesn't create any kind of restriction at the snorkel anyway. So it's probably kinda pointless. But hey, for 30bucks, what do you expect??? :P lol
