Default Idle problems with big cam

Hey guys I have a 97 Fairmont. I have had the engine worked and had a stage 3 crow cam installed. Ever since i got it back it has been idling at 1 to 1.5 grand. Has anybody had similar problems and worked it out. Thanx

assuming its an auto? you're about at the limits of a stock ECU w/ auto box and cam size!

Have you turned down the idle speed?

With big cams the ecu also tends to over react with the idle speed controller. Unplugging it and setting the idle speed manually can help.

have just been going through cam selection for my 98 el also. from what my head builder has told me, that cam (crow stage 3) can not run with a stock ecu (well it can run, but not efficiently) and is not recommended for autos without a hi stall. Memcal's are available for it at a cost of about $600 and hi stall anywhere from $300 to $600 depending on where you go. In the end I went with a dev3hl and mock stally - head is being assembled today then off to exhaust shop - will let you know how it goes.

alternatively, get a custom chip torque chip - they have ability to adjust idle amongst several other things and would solve your issues.
