Default Rocker cover

Ok i searched but couldn't find a thread to help, how much effort is involved in removing the rocker cover so i can paint it. Any one with a step by step would be appreciated. i think it's probably might be something easy but i ain't sure. i'm not very mechanically sounded, and do you think blue would look nice in a white forte

Now , to save another thread being created on the same topic , what paint are you using? I want to paint mine Blueprint or Shockwave but im not sure how the acrilic paint that they sell at AutoOne in ford colours will stand up to the heat.....any one know what the best paint is to use on rocker covers is?

cheers

there is heatproof paint out there, can withstand upto 500*C or something from memory, AutoOne, Autobarn and other spray painting places will have it.

The rocker doesn't get too hot, but it will be hot enough that acrylic will blister and peel. Use engine enamel - the Ford Blue is probably the best you'll get. Otherwise black or red always look good.

yep use hi-temp paint - can even paint your extractors if you like ..lol - it's cheap and everywhere thats sells spray paint sells it usually , even k-mart and big W sell it, comes in heaps of colors. Basically the same sorta paint used for painting your inner discs and callipers on ya brakes . Usually its only about $5 more a can that normal enamel, and worth every cent - this stuff is tuff as nails .

hey glenn, was it a pain masking up the writing and lines on the rocker cover, because i want to paint my cover but i think it will be too hard to tape up all the silver stuff. i am a little lazy when it come to modifying your car to make it look better, there is not much point

An easy way to paint the roker cover without much masking, is to paint it, then straight away wipe down the silver parts with a rag soaked in terps/metho/kero/paint thinner or what ever.
It saves masking and is easier to do.

Cheers

I think the rocker cover would melt first and all you would be left with is a paint mould :

That works out to 260 degrees celcius , how hot would a rocker cover get? Im sure it would be close to that temp would it not?

Rocker cover wouldn't get past about 60 degrees celsius. Even when fully hot, you can touvh it for a second or 2 without burning skin off, so 60 would be max. The water in your engine at it's hottest is a bit over 100, so the block may get reaonably wartm, but the rocker cover shouldn't. The exhaust on the the other had - 300 degrees + on a turbo is not out of the question, and on a NA car, even hot enough to burn skin off at the slightest touch, so 100+.

Bucky - I think that's a welcome back feature after a holiday.

And if you look closely, there are slight differneces (well, one difference) between the posts. The first one is #16 and the second is #17

When do you get your rocker cover? Or should I ring Vince and go and pick it up? He wouldn't know if I was Bucky or not - we both ugly!!

Are you going down for the FPV day? If so, take the rocker cover with you, and the whole of AFF can help install it!

I'm heading up to Terrigal this weekend. FPV usually results in a huge whole in my finances.

Paint the rocker cover with 2 pac paint ! Once 2 pac has cured properly you can stub a cigerette out on it and it wont burn it ! Even if you just hold it on it for a few seconds i dosent burn, but dont go trying it out with a blow tourch or anything !
