Default EL Boot Mount Problem

I got one annoying problem...

The left hand boot strut has come away inside where it mounts to the car, and thus the boot wont stay up on its own!
There appears to be part of a metal plate still attatched to the end of the strut, so it isnt a problem with the strut itself, its come away from the chassis. I havent had a chance to get a good look at it yet, but from what I can see, there is no access to it other than through the hole in the boot where it enters behind the seats? Is there any other access to it anyone know?
I cant imagine what has happened, nothing looks like it has "snapped" :

the spot welds tear away from the body, leaving the bracket floating around..Remove the base of the seat.. Push it towards the bot and lift and it will pop out. Put your seat down, then remove the side swab of the rear seat.. One 10mm bolt under the bottom and the large grey disc on the stump. Then line the bracket up with the spot welds, it is easy to spot where it goes becuase Ford dont paint under them then grab 4 self tappers and screw it back to the body. You can drill holes and use bolts and nuts but slef tappers do a good enough job

I've heard of it happening more on XR6 and XR8s because of the extra weight of the boot spoiler.

They are bloody heavy with only one strut supporting them, aren't they!! I was surprised too. Wouldn't want to get cracked on the back of the head by it.
