A scan the other day picked up a faulty coil pack in the V8 AU. I rang around the usual suspects and was quoted $73 per side for NGK & Bosch and then Repco quoted me $165 per side for Fuelmiser. I asked the guy why so dear & he said their reduced from $195 per side at the moment. I then looked online and discovered the Motorcraft code F5LU-12029-AA is widely used on everything from 1.6 Escorts to Econovan's from Germany to America. They range in price from $25 to $50 and onwards. Obviously the postage from some country's is dearer than others but I can still buy genuine Motorcraft delivered cheaper than any aftermarket job here in Sydney. I always prefer Motorcraft parts when I can get them and I don't think there is any advantage in using MSD especially as the motor's internals are standard. Definitely worth shopping around with savings as big as $250 between Repco & Blacktown Spares.

I found similar just recently. Repco quoted $45 per coil for a BA 6cyl but can't remember the brand. Autobarn quoted half that, about $23 per coil.
A wrecking yard quoted $110-ish for up to 10-13 year old coils from another BA! In the end I bought some absolute cheapies from eBay, $60 for 6. I'll put them in this weekend and give them a go. They'll either be fine or the whole car will go up in flames. ![]() |

Been there, done that. I run a dual fuel BA wagon. Cheap coils lasted less than a year. Bite the bullet and get the genuine Ford ones. It is cheaper in the long run.

Based on those numbers, I'm going to say it's more likely that pure chance comes in to play whether you've bought genuines that last 1 year or 10, or aftermarkets that last 1 year or 10. |

Anybody who can supply me with a pair of genuine Motorcraft coils for a 5.0i Windsor, please PM me with price & details. I seriously doubt they exist anymore but I hope I am wrong.
