Post 2018 Mustang 444bhp.

"Want a Mustang? Wait, because the much-upgraded 2018 ‘Stang is set to go on sale in Europe next year – and we reckon it’s going to be worth waiting for.

Why? Because it’s got more power. Ford’s European arm “anticipates” 444bhp or thereabouts (up from 410) from the revised 5.0-litre N/A V8, which gets a clever new fuel injection system for a higher rev-limit and more low-end torque.

Curiously the 2.3-litre four-cylinder Mustang has less power than it did pre-facelift – just 286bhp, down from 313. Ford tells us this is because the EcoBoost ‘Stang has “Gas Particulate Filter (GPF) technology”, which helps with emissions but increases back pressure in the exhaust, and reduces “the steady state horsepower of the engine”.

Thanks to more torque and a “transient overboost function”, Ford says the new EcoBoost ‘Stang is no slower than the old car, despite the power deficit. In fact, Ford says it’s even quicker if you go for the new ten-speed automatic transmission (which is also available on the V8). No performance data has been released for either engine.

More power isn’t the only reason you should wait for the new ‘Stang. There’s the optional “MagneRide” adaptive dampers (which complements recalibrated shock absorbers, stiffened rear suspension with a cross-axis joint and thicker anti-roll bars), the active exhaust with “Good Neighbour” mode for socially-acceptable early-morning getaways and the special “Drag Strip” mode.

The new looks are backed-up by a higher-quality interior, with a 12in LCD in place of the dials, SYNC3 infotainment (with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) and higher quality materials. Pre-collision and pedestrian detection systems are part of a new suit of driver assistance tech’ available on the new ‘Stang, which also gets adaptive cruise and lane-keeping aids. Should help its NCAP score somewhat…"

Waiting, waiting in the wings - will pull the trigger next year if the same configuration comes to Aus - looks the goods.

Still 20hp down on what the yanks get. But looks like they are more serious with it this time and not leaving off a lot of stuff that the US cars got. Bonnet vent's, tri bar DRL's etc.

And standard active exhaust.

Looking to buy the 2018 model, turned down a good price on a current model brand new one from a client who had buyers regret. Hoping the front panels off the current model will fit, that's one ugly facelift

It's a 5 star car in the US, and it's only not getting 5 stars here due to the safety of backseat passengers due to the close proximity of the front seat backs. Frontal and side impacts it scores well. Don't believe that 2 star bs as it's solely marked down due to the rear seat, which no one would ever use anyway cause you could only fit people without legs back there.

From all reports frontal results were actually a higher score than the FG Falcon which was 5 stars.

I really hate comments like this.. I don't care what you considered to be safe 10 years ago, it's not the standard of today! And it's great you survived driving cars 10 years ago, the problem is more people would have survived if they where in cars of today's standards.

Rant over! Back to topic..

I'd still rather have a crash in a 10 year old Falcon then a brand new Daewoo / Kia / Cruze / Hyundai / Yaris

Jeebus now this crap is plaguing petrol cars too.

The DPF is the reason why I won't buy another diesel car.

probably wasn't too bad compared to what was available at the time in North America.
That being said, interesting fact, the same shape 1974 Mustang ll, was the 4th best selling Mustang behind the 65, 66 & 67 Mustang, and that was without a v8 being available

Pet peeve. As bad as Camries in recent models, handbrake on the wrong side and the HVAC stereo angled towards the passenger instead of driver , due to the beancounters saving the costs of doing proper RHD specific plastic moulds...

An electric switch is replacing the hand brake on many models, this would solve the issue for left hand right hand drive models easily.
