Default Australia Day & old Fords & Holdens.

One of the more important days in our calender imo, so yesterday we took the old XE ESP for a drive down the New England Hwy to Newcastle. It's about a 1 1/2 hour drive from our home in the Hunter Valley, beautiful summer day & a great day to give the old 351 a bit of a run.
What absolutely blew me away was the amount of older Fords & Holdens on the road yesterday & even more than usual FPV GT Falcons. I came across a beautiful XY GT Falcon along the way, arm out the window to each other with a friendly wave, XB coupe around Maitland, XK etc. etc. & also a swag of older Holdens.
I must say I have never felt so proud to drive a good old Aussie Falcon as I did yesterday. To all those who were out there yesterday in there new or older Fords & Holdens, well done. I enjoyed seeing both red & blue out there loud & proud on Australia Day. By the way, the old XE never missed a beat all day which is great for a 32 year old car.
It is going to be a sad sad day when these things are no longer going to be built in this great country!

I took the XR8 out for a good blast yesterday for the same reason (would've been the Fairlane, but she's getting the gearbox rebuilt at the moment), and got exactly the same feeling! It does make you feel proud.

Good onya ZGM86, I forgot to mention the XR8's. Seen at least two EL XR's on sunday as well along with the many BA & BF XR8's.
I must admit besides the XY GT I mentioned earlier, I came across a beautiful HG ute not far out of Newcastle. Absolutely mint, aussie flags on both windows, just great to see.

The Hunter British Ford Group was flying the Ford flag across the harbour at Stockton with Cortinas, Escorts, Cossie Sierras, and Anglias. Beaut day out. Was going to catch the ferry to have a look at the cars on the other side but there was a huuuge line up. Glad to hear there was a good roll up at Newcastle

Conversely, this is the first Australia Day I recall feeling a bit miffed when I saw Aussie flags flying from a VW, Hyundais or the Camry. I'm certain its to do with the Ford and Holden announcements this year

Why Camry? Its more Aussie than the Commodore (components sourced).

Camry / Corolla - whatever it was, might not even have been a Toyota, everything looks so alike these days.
Maybe it was the "SANDHU" personalised plates that ruffled me.

Yeah, that makes sense... if it isnt SMITH on the numberplate, how dare they hoist an Australian Flag on a car...

I've also posted these in the just out for a cruize thread, I hope I don't upset any one by posting them here as well but any how a group of mates and I used to do the CRAKK run in Canberra every Australia day but last year decided to do our own thing so once again The Pariahs had our annual Australia day weekend away at Bendalong on the NSW South Coast

Hewey (A good mate of mine) chose the cruize route down and to say it was a Cracker is an understatement

Along the way in typical Yeti style we had a little hick up and as we were pulling in to Albion Park I had no brakes

But it was nothing that we couldn't handle

But a quick trip to the good people at Dapto Brake & Clutch had us on back to bleeding the brakes in the carpark
http://www.daptoclutchandbrake.com.au/

On Sunday we did a cruize to Sussex Inlet and took in the Show n Shine

Aside from the little Alfa all cars are Australian built
