Default Has anyone had a ticket on point to point radar?

I was driving past these just north of Brisbane on Bruce Highway yesterday and as my average speed was bang on the limit, it ocurred to me that there may be a slight chance of being photographed. I just wonder how what the wording would be on the ticket they post out, has anyone had the delightful experience?

The point to point camera in canberra is for all traffic.
But then again it's not exactly a main Highway/freeway

They use them in Victoria. I got done between the 104 and 105 Km mark out of Melbourne on the Hume near Seymour in 2010. I didn't believe it but couldn't afford to fight it, (time off work etc.) They definitely use them from Broadford to Melbourne.

The NSW point to point cameras only enforce heavy vehicle speeding offences although the QLD cameras are applicable to all vehicles.

Im presuming the fine would say something like:
Distance travelled between detection points: 8km
Time elapsed between detection points: 4 mins
Calculated average speed: 120km.

Fine applies to whatever the demerit point offence would be for a 10km speeding fine (assuming limit is 110km).

The 13k section between Caboolture and the Caloundra turn off is for all vehicles. Average speed of 110kph. You can also be snapped at both entry and exit point cameras for doing more than 110kph. There is another camera on the On Ramp from the servo heading north so you cant bypass the point to point range any more either.

Have they always been on for cars? As i posted ive not had a fine yet, i guess my average must have been just under.
Yeah the old trick dodging the camera by using the off ramp worked for a while

The one between Caboolture and Caloundra turnoff is for all vehicles and was for a long time not working properly.

Although the ministry of truth has proclaimed it to be operational there are those who suspect it may be a paper tiger.....

There is a fairly new point to point one between Inverell and Glen Innes that is for all vehicles.

In NSW point to point speed cameras are definitely only for heavy vehicles. As per current RMS info. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety...ras/index.html

Here's also a map of all NSW point to point speed camera locations. Current November 2012. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety..._locations.pdf

It includes that Inverell to Glen Innes one, but hey if they slow down all you interstate drivers, all good.

I don't plan on going back to Victoria (ever if possible), but will have to watch out for those ones in Queensland next time I'm up there.

The locals told me it was for all vehicles so not sure. Slowing isn't an issue to bother me as I turn off and go through Elsmore.Cuts about 15 minutes off the trip without speeding!

Correct NSW point to point is over 4.5GVM's only.

However the new digital cameras can still do rego checks.....

I drive through the federal highway point to point every weekday and it's amazing how many drivers slam the brakes on at the gantry, only to speed up, overtake me again and slam the brakes on at the next gantry. Apart from not being affected by them, don't they realize that their average speed between them is still over 10km/h over the speed limit.
Me I sit on cruise and laugh at 122 indicated(120 actual) between the gantries.

Well he was talking about the one on the Bruce at the beginning of the 110 zone.

Which is in a very interesting place actually. Those who play in the traffic there would be aware that it is almost gridlock from the airport up to the Bribie turn off and then all of a sudden most of the traffic turn right and the 110 zone starts.

So finally after all the pent up stress of being held up by the the commuters the 4 lane freeway is wide open with little traffic and excellent visibility.

What a perfect place to stick a point to point camera to trap motorists who foolishly think they are free at last.

But is is a know black spot with a terrible road history I hear wafting down from the altitudinal equestrians in their finest marypoppins impersonation.

Well it was until the morons finally worked out that allowing 4WDs with caravans to turn right across a dual lane freeway in a 110 zone on the primary arterial route out of a capital city is just a tiny bit silly so they closed off all the bad intersections.

Still a historical black spot though.......and we do have the best road safety strategy money can buy....

That link doesn't work, but don't you mean Northbound, but South of jolls Bridge? If so, that isn't actually a P2P camera for anyone, it's 2 completely separate single point speed cameras, very close together, (pretty close to exactly 1km apart). I'm not sure they both operate at the same time though, either one could be operating at any given time, but you won't know which one.
They are placed where they are, because it's a variable speed zone, depending on whether it's raining or not. They are directly in-front of the overhead gantry with the illuminated speed signs, so if you get snapped, you can't argue the speed limit, because it will be clearly shown in the photo.

If you're talking about the overhead gantry cameras at Mt White, then they're heavy vehicle "Safe-T-Cams", checking heavy vehicles for rego, driver fatigue, (if they go through too many Safe-T-Cams in a given time, the RMS knows they've been driving too long without rest stops), & to make sure heavy vehicles don't by-pass an open check/weigh stations. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/heavyvehic...hvlid=safetcam

I think most of us do realise the Bruce Hwy is in Qld., but the title of the thread is "has anyone had a ticket on point to point radar", it doesn't say "in Queensland", even if the OP was talking about the Bruce Hwy one.

In July 2011 I was heading south to Tasmania in an FG ute (father wanted some stuff moved) and had to stop in Braidwood to drop off a couch to a colleagues mother (have ute, means you don't mind travelling to the ends of the earth to move stuff for people). Long story short, the address in Braidwood had me on dirt roads, which my stupid Navman recommended - for 2 hours.
This then took me out to near Cooma, and running low on time for a 7:30pm boat I was forced to race toward the Hume. Got to Holbrook at 3:30pm, and had to be at Station Pier by no later than 6:45pm with Friday evening Melbourne traffic.
Anticipating the point to point cameras I had to make up time, and did so by fracturing a couple of the speed limit laws well beforehand.
From the point to point stuff though I was very careful, although I was on the phone with the Spirit of Tasmania people rebooking my trip as it was now 7:00pm on the Westgate bridge. By a stroke of luck they were waiting for me.
2 weeks later I received a fine from Vicroads, for doing (and I swear to God this is true) 101km/h in a 100km/h zone just near the Mobil McDonalds servos.
I couldn't believe it, I think I still have it somewhere amongst my paperwork.
Now normally I'd fight the hell out of it, but considering I was doing 150km/h on the Snowy mountains highway and 130km/h on the Hume (up until the point to point cameras) I figure I got off lightly.

I understand the 2 cameras near Jolls bridge are there because the first camera is not to detect speed but to provide evidence that you were shown the variable speed limit before coming to the actual camera 500m up the road. There are no other points before that first set of variable signs that dictate the actual speed limit because the others before it are the 90 if raining & 100 if not, fixed signs - which can be open to interpretation, not to mention change since entering the new limit.

It also can't be a speed camera because there are no warning signs before it, all signs are after that initial camera.

The one north of Melbs on the Hume must not be working properly - ive never been done on them and passed them about 10 times in last 12 months. The same said for the ones on the Bruce on way to Sunny Coast - never been done. Maybe they dont book interstate cars? That or not keen to ping for 5km/h over

And yeah that first one top of Jolls - pass it every day - there are no pieze strips on road - it was the old brojen one from Spit Rd

When i drive to melbourne now I fill up from jerry cans in between those point to point cameras - just to mess with them.

maybe get two identical cars and each camera with the same plates and drive through them within 10 seconds (get a fine for 1292776483 kph)

then again, make sure a car doesnt have roughly the same number plate:
