Default Stroke or Poke?

Hey All,

Thought I'd jump on for a look while the Aussies get ready to go out and bat. What a great start for the Boxing Day Test. Question, I have a 289w in my XW. One day when the stars align and I win lotto, I want to do my old girl up a bit. Obviously the engine would get some attention to match the look. Which avenue is the most practical/economical to take. Stroking my baby eight or simply replacing it with something else all together? Thoughts? I'm interested to see where personal opinion sways.

351W or 351C replacement IMO. Depends how healthy the 289 is and how well it does the job you want it to do. If you are happy with the performance maybe just give her a spruce up.

I'm guessing originality isn't an issue since XWs didn't have 289s so im guessing its not the original motor.

No, She sported 6cyl and column shift at birth. I bought it as an averagely finished project car back in 1998. Personally I'd probably go a 351W. I like the smallness of the windors.

351W would be my pick too.....a little bit more compact in an XW engine bay than a Clevo too....

351 Windsor and then stroked out to 408 or 418 cubes.

I'd go a late model 5l Windsor

But I accept that they don't look quite right in an old engine bay

351 clevo, but i'm a little biased

I'm in the same boat as you mate, stock motor in an XW (except mines a 351 clevo). Can't wait for that lotto winning day to spend a small fortune on it, except i don't play lotto :/
