Thought I'd post this - as there is a fairly large article about the 'Most Wanted' Aussie Fords (page 58). I think a very good mix of cars here, and really it gives something for everyone. So, what are the 10 'Most Wanted' cars? XA Falcon GT RPO 83 XY Falcon GT-HO Phase III XR GT Falcon ED XR8 Sprint XY Fairmont GS (351 4-speed) XM-XP Futura Hardtop XC Falcon Cobra 5.8 Cortina GT500 XE Fairmont Ghia ESP (351 4-speed) AU III TE50/TS50 5.6 Couldabeens: XB John Goss Special Hardtop Escort GT1300 / GT1600 FPV BF Cobra GT Personally, I think that the mix above is a really well thought out mix of cars. Sure - they might not be the top 10 for everyone, but it does cover nearly all bases between the high-end collectable, modern muscle, and affordable classics. I'd love to see an article on the top 10 for under $10,000. Affordable classics that are fun to own, and are entry level collectable cars. Not everyone can afford $30k-$40k (or more) to have a classic in their shed but would love to be a part of it all. So - back to my original point (if I did even have one ) what do you think of the top 10 'Most Wanted' Fords? Is something missing? Is something in the list not worthy? Is it spot on? I'm very interested in what the forum has to say - given we all have a passion for Fords. Loftie

Just too many great fords to narrow it down to just 10. My favourite EB GT, XB GT, BA and BF GT.

I have seen, first hand, John Goss Specials pulling north of $45k.
Yet according to them XB K code Fairmont coupes are worth more Hilarious. Take with a grain of salt. |

Landau should've been on that list instead of either the ED Sprint or AUIII TE/TS 50

T3TL50? But then again, a car that most people know nothing about couldnt make the most desireable list.

After reading the article again - and using their rating systems - they are saying that the ED XR8 Sprint & XY GS Fairmont rated 38/50 (equal 1st) and the XE ESP rated 30/50 (last).

TO me, the more collectible is always going to be the older and rarer car, a car that brings you back to that time. IF you were not born then I dont see how you can see it as collectible.
1. Original gold GT 2. XY GTHO 3. XC Cobra 351 4. XE ESP 5.8 5. ED XR8 Sprint 6. BA XR8 (first of the boss and outstanding looking car) 7. BA XR6T (First of the turbos and change in the guard for performance cars) 8. BF Cobra 9. FG F6 (outstanding performance car) 10. FG Miami GT (will be collectible) |

i reckon they got it right to include the xm xp futura hardtop, especially the xm, short production run and starting to pull decent money.
All 10 cars and then some are ones i would sell my soul for!!!I reckon the T3 and F6 will be the ones which will go ballistic in the future. |

Hey Loftie, are you able to please scan any other picture's from that latest U/C mag ?
The picture that i'm refering to is that sensational shot of a new XA Fairmont Coupe. Has some very nice options, the obvious of which is the sunroof. Also looks the goods with the red wall tyres and full wheel trims..... But one of the other very nice things about that shinny new Coupe is the engine option. From what i can make out, the badges on the front gaurds indicate that it has the mighty 250 2V 6 shooter. ( Looks to be the red "250" badge with the "170 HP" underlay )....All wrapped up in what appears to be Copper Bronze Met paint work ? Not the most loved colour of the day, but hard to knock when it's so fresh on those virgin, shot gun straight pannels. It seems to be "just a plain Fairmont". By this i mean that it's not a GS, as it has no stripes. But it does have a few desirable & un-usual options. Proberly be quite rare nowadays, & even more desirable to many. Certainly to me. I'd also most likely suggest that it's proberly T-bar auto. Definately is floor shift of some sort - as there is no coloum mounted shifter in sight in that picture. And not being a GS Fairmont, then auto would be the base / default option....( But obviously there was a good variety of boxes to tick on the option's list, so it could be possible to have the 4spd Toploader ). In any case it is a very nicely optioned & presented XA. If you can put up the colour scan mate, i'm sure others will also enjoy. BTW, i don't mind the U/C top 10 wanted list. As you say, seems to be a fair mix in there. Good to see XM~XP in there, XY "K" code + the little write up on each model.... I also agree with others here that it's hard to narrow it down to just 10, but i can live with that list on face value. Cheers guys. |

It says sought after though, not rare. If it were a list comparing RARE Fords, the list would be a lot different. The cars they have chosen are obviously on there for a reason. Not about what prices people pay, or how often you see one, its about how sought after they are.

I'd wouldn't exactly call a Landau highly sought after, but you can say that about the others.
Rarity doesn't always mean popularity. The Landau is more of a limited appeal car, there are some that love them but most don't see the attraction. Most people love the ones on that list. |

While the landau is a nice car, it's overshadowed by the normal coupes, and GT models of that era...you can't make a GT replica from a landau.
It won't be long until lists like these change, in 10 years time you might see the likes of the 185kw EL XR8, EB + EL GT's, AU XR8 220 etc. As the XY HO's and Cobras of the falcon world get bought up and stored away, people look towards other areas of falcons, and appriciate what those cars really are. Who would of thought that a ol' XE ESP would have been a collectors item when they were sitting in show rooms?

I had two coupes & a mate had 3 Landaus over six years so I can offer a fairly well informed opinion. Yes they were well optioned & comfortable in their day, but they were nothing to write home about in standard form performance wise. The Sprints & T3's however are in a different league. Sure they have most of the features of the Landau as standard, lower build numbers & performance that really can't be compared - three completely different cars. I personally would not place Landaus before Sprints & T3's. |

a landau is no different to an xa-b-c coupe. no one actually wants a landau - they want a coupe, but prefer the ltd version over the a-b-c
when new, they were unloved, due in some point to the more limited rear vision. many don't think coupes have enough rear visibility - remove half of the rear windows and more people were turned off them while i think they are great cars (all coupes are), i don't think they are a classic as such overall, i think the list is pretty accurate |

It's a good article and there's an interesting letter in the mag from someone who says he has a factory-built V8 XE after the V8 officially ended. The Victoria Police ordered it. Ford are refusing to change their records about it because they list it as a six. Just found that interesting.

Thats apparently true, the last one was supposed to be built in 82 but they continued building them some time into 83, I think mostly to fill police orders for them, which piled up after they said they were going to drop it.
As far as i'm aware anyway. |

What do you guys think of the value they have for Cond 1 Landaus at $26k?
I thought non concourse but very good had sold for $40k. I would have thought that a very clean Landau should be $40 to $45 maybe even a touch more. Or am I kidding myself? |

^^^ Yeah mate when i was looking at a few of the value guides in that latest U'C's mag i also thought some of the pricing seemed a little low.....To the right buyer i would agree that the Landau price is well short. But then again confidence in the ecomomy & share markets is all over the place recently - so finding the "right" buyer/s in numbers may become increasingly harder at present.
I suppose next to the excess price / values of a few years ago, then the market seems to be somewhat deflated. Desirability + rarerity will always comand the bigger $$$$$ in the Classic Car market. So i suppose when the confidence & demand is there it could be possible to at least double the value price that they have listed. As we all know here, the cost to re-build one to that level can & does tripple those figures in the blink of an eye... Just offer George $26K + 30% premium for "concourse standard" and see what response you'd get, ....lol. Cheers. Last edited by Gavin Thomas; 23-06-2012 at 10:37 PM. |
