Exclamation Need some help with my computer ASAP n

Long story short, I've got exams on right now (english tomorrow) and some important files are on my computer which decided to stop working luckily just after I saved a half completed essay.

Hopefully someone here can help...
I'm running windows 7
Copied and pasted some text into a word doc and word went unresponsive so I crapped myself but then it responded but it was slow. So I saved it and restarted the pc. It got stuck at the shutting down thing for a couple of mins so I just held down the power button til it shut off. Then I turned it on but it just went black after the windows screen. Restarted and it said that windows failed to start and gave me the choice to start it normally or do a system recovery. I tried normally again but no good so I did the system recovery thing and it tried to repair it but didn't work (all tests completed successfully). So now I'm at a screen with the options to:
Startup repair (done as above)
System restore (need files on it I did today)
System image recovery (whats that + tried it and I don't have any images)
Windows repair diagnostic ?
Command prompt ?

I'm not amazing with computers but if you give me detailed instructions then I should have no problems

Sorry for any grammar mistakes as I'm writing from a phone which has taken ages and is giving me a headache

Thanks heaps for any help in advance

Edit if u need my specs I will put them up soon as I'm trying to find them thanks

I haven't tried with documents, but you may be able to run in safe mode, get what you need and try a recovery. Sounds to me though you have picked up a virus (trojan?).
In that case, it's simply easier to take it to a place and get it fixed. Couple days max

Thumbs down Re: Need some help with my computer ASAP n

Better not be a virus... Never had One before
Do u know how to start in safe mode? It doesn't give me the option but ive got command prompt

Specs I know so far-
4gb ram with gtx285 graphics card and intel quad core q9550 processor

By the way the screen I have up has that fancy blue login screen background with windows 98(?) type window open called system recovery options (that's where the options listed above are)

Laptop or desktop?

Remove power completely, remove battery if its a lappy, switch it off at the wall if its a desktop.
Wait 5 minutes.
Put battery in/ turn power on.
Restart
See if it will boot to Windows.
If no - (with no real IT knowledge) you're catus (short term)

If that doesn't work, you should have your Windows CD
Boot from that

This is why I hate computers (compared to mechanical stuff)....

I've been repeatably trying to boot it up but always got the same problem. So I try one more time until I resort to rewriting whole essays and guess what... It WORKS?????!!!! Anyway I'm all happy now but things like this really confuse me

If you can, try and save everything to an external harddrive, and do either a system reboot/reformat, or clock the computer back to about a week ago
