Exclamation

you need the whole upright that the hub bolts to, as the caliper mounting holes are spaced further apart , ba caliper is alot larger , with smaller lighter pistons i put the ba ones on my au s/3 if you can get them cheap they are good little upgrade. i picked my ba hubs , uprights , calipers , front & rear for $56.00 of ebay , wreckers will charge you like a wounded bull , you wouldn't even get a single caliper for that price , cheers

On series 2/3 cars the callipers will be a direct change.

On series 1's though it is change the front suspension. That is sway bar + mounts, lower arms, uprights, and braking system (including lines).

Here's a thread on what's needed and how to do it.

So would BA XR6 or 8 brakes be a good upgrade on an AUII Fairmont Ghia?

They are an alright upgrade if you can get the parts at a good price.
This is because they are not much larger than au2/3 stuff. 298 Vs 287. But looking at the calipers, they look like they would be stiffer than the au2/3 calipers, but that is my own sumising. You'd be hard pressed to tell that from within the car though.

The good upgrade if you can get them are either the BA premiums/GT brakes (black or blue PBR caliper), or BF XR6T/XR8 calipers.
The premiums are 325*32, and the BF gear is 322*28

Cheers

Man theirs a sizable difference between AU and BA front rotors. Even BA Xt rotors and calipers will make a difference, esspesially on mountain runs.

Yeh, a whole 11mm. Rotor size is the same between AU1 and AU2, but AU2s gets the twin pot callipers. Not much point going from AU2/3 to BA (except for the "I did it" factor), but going from AU1 to AU2 or BA, just for the front twin pots is a great improvement.

AU1 pads are 130 x 62 x 13 mm
AU2/3 Pads are 169 x 62 x 16 mm
BA pads are 190 x 58 x 15 mm (longer but not as wide as AU2)
BF XR8 pads are 184 x 63 x 14 mm

Thumbs up

i've put ba setup on my AU S/3 , only cause my originals were shot , as above i got the whole ba setup for $56, reco'ed them still worked out cheaper than fixing the AU ONES ,had the braking system tested on a brake retarding machine they definatly showed better braking improvement , for a small outlay.

$56 is an extremely great price, and certainly hard to go past!

11mm is 11mm, every little bit helps. Or just don't bother at all, who needs to stop. Only girls use the middle pedal anyway. Later.........
