No jokes regards sniffing substances-in the outback, many indigineous communities have bans/guidelines in regards to fuel purchasing/containers. I'm unsure of the exact laws involved but the guidelines are there due to petrol sniffing and drug use, as well as curbing violent behaviour related to petrol sniffing.

While I dont share AuIIforte's attitude, but the truth is that if a taser wasnt available, he would be dead, not just suffering from bad burns. And from a hold up in a servo where petrol and a lighter was used as a weapon against me I totally understand first-hand why you wouldnt want them coming towards you with that, and honestly though a freak accident probably the best out-come for all involved

This sounds like a serious issue-one that I feel begs the question, isn't prevention better than the cure? In this case the cure is the tazer. The prevention is reducing to zero petrol sniffers and violent crime. It's just never that easy though is it? The tazer is the lesser of two evils-death, or a bit of pain. Might not be pretty, but it can and does work.

Freak accident. nothing more.

I would much rather him being burnt than being dead, or all of them dead if he had managed to get that lighter into contact with the petrol, i'm sre he does too

Well you can't run at police with a flammable substance in one hand and a lighter in the other and expect for them to shake your hand.

Exactly right mitchay, but a tazer is a better option than shooting someone who needs drug rehabilitation and councelling.

Wow. A friend of mine did some time in the RFDS in Neekathara or Jandakot, and was constantly having his car drained of petrol. Even when it was locked away in a shed it was still gotten at; one time they even drilled a hole in the tank.
Petrol sniffers should be locked up.

I see the dogooders now calling for a ban on tazers but without this ( even with it's risks) they are left with a glock. electrcution that you can recover from in most cases is far better than a big hole in you
the use of tarers of course needs to be monitored to make sure they are not used inappropriatly but all cops should have access to one so shooting can be avoided

especially in communities where mental health is a concern.
