Like the guy that shoved a bag of sand into his air intake on the Audi forums.

Maybe it's the same guy.

Never knew automotive ability had a genotype.

Aside, the fella is a fool for not reading the instructions.

It is that simple.

Whether it works or not, whenever you use anything for your car, following instructions is integral. It's common sense. I'm still looking for mine though.

Had he injured himself by doing this he could have been a "Darwin Award" contender

When I was an apprentice mechanic at a servo, myself and a friend who was the driveway attendant watched a guy fill his crankcase up with water.

Whilst my friend was filling it I saw him open the bonnet on a 260Z which was a few years old then ...poke, around, take off the oil filler cap, had a whiff then walked to where we had oil bottles and water cans, I looked away thinking nothing more of it; but then looked up again and saw him standing there with a watering can just as the water overflowed out of the tapped cover. : My friend saw him at the same time and yelled for him to stop - but too late (I reckon he let him do it...he was a sick puppy).

It may seem like an urban myth, but I am sure this poor guy was not the only one to do this.

I felt for him...in between laughing fits.

Not an urban myth. I know of a chinese woman who did this to a mercedes and aside from ruining her engine, she was more concerned about her husbands reaction.

Another classic was a woman took a fiesta into city ford in crown street complaing of it the oil light coming on, running rough and making noises. Even though she was a walk in, she was rather persistent and rude to the service advisor, so he agreed to see what he could do. The car was two years old (97 model?) and had done about 60,000klm; so still under warranty. Anyway, the service advisor heard it and agreed that it was running so rough, he'd have to get someone to look at it for her. He went in to run the paperwork, and found that she hadn't been to city ford before. Infact, she hadn't been to any dealerships before, and hadn't even had the 3000klm service. So 60,000klm and no oil change. They flushed it about 5 times, but it was too late and the motor was far too worn to run again.
