Default Help needed with twin exhaust tips on AUs!

Hi everyone,

I'm about to get some work done to my XR and nows my chance to be get rid of the VX SS style tip thats on it and replace it with something nicer.

I've had a look at the tips on this site:

I'm a little torn on what sort of twin tip to get, I'm thinking either:

-straight cut with rolled edges (4th from the top right side)
-angle cut with rolled edges (6th from the top right side)
-straight cut with slight dumpage (3rd from the bottom)
-straight cut with slight bevel on outside (third from the top centre)

If anyone can post pics of the rear of their AU with twin tips (especially if its an AU2 XR) it would be greatly appreciated!

Option 1 is what the au2's are fitted with stock, and look freakin awesome IMO. Angle cut is too commodoreish for my liking. As for a pic, check out aufalcon.com.au plenty on there to see :

EDIT: Top left one is what au2's have stock, one is shorter than the other.

Cool so I've narrowed it down to straight cut...lol

I really like the standard AU2 XR8 tips, I wish the guy I bought the car off had had them welded onto the sports exhaust he had fitted (but maybe he couldnt?)

He could have, its no problem at all. What is disappointing is that he didnt ask him what tip he'd like. That's good customer service IMO, considering tips cost extra.

Well i don't know how it is in Victoria, but i found BIG variations in prices up here, one brand would be at least 100 bucks, but the one i got only cost 60, same materials, same quality, just different sticker you end up peeling off anyway

these are the twin 2.5" stainless tips on my Herrod system on the XR8. sorry, they are a little dirty at the moment.

Option 1 is probably the choice if you have to to twin style tip.
Personally not a fan of the twin tips.

The Wagon is a bastard of at thing to get decent exhaust system on, with the fuel tank on the left, its impossible to have a twin left right system, and the live axle and towbar mounting spot on the right ( weather you have a bar or not ) gets in the way too.

This is my second attempt - its not that pretty.

Wish i had a pic of my old AU XR i had twin straight cut tips on it and it looked fantastic. Id go the straight cuts IMO

Not an AU, but these were my number one preference for exhaust tips!







KPM Motorsport sell them for $90 last time i checked.

I got the same tip as yours HLC, i really like the top left ones! I'm changing mine very soon as i agree with you they are too small and hate the angle ones..much prefer straight cut!

top left is nice. thats how i plan to get mine. but a bit larger and with the custom tips.

if you get the size up of our tips they just look funny. like i dunno not too big? but too retarded? hahahah they suit a stock bumper just fine though!

I recently got some Blue Diamond tips, 3" dual, staggered, bevelled cut - similar to the ones 3rd from the top in the centre:



They took two hours to line up just right, but I think they fill the hole in the Rebel kit really well:

Been on for five months, and no paint bubbling or bumper warping, despite there only being about 10mm gap! :

Thats it, these are the style Im going to get...




The straight cut tips look mean, but dont look 'finished' enough, the rolled ones are nicely finished but look to 'nice' these ones have a mean look, but still look nicely finished off.

Can anyone help with the pros and cons of going stainless steel or chromed?

Chromed mild steel will look good for a while but soon enough the chrome will fade and chip. High quality stainless will last for near on forever and with a bit of autosol will keep coming up looking the goods.

Yeah I was thinking of going s/steel, as all the bits n pieces of stainless trim on 60-70s cars still look the goods 40 years later.

I've yet to see the tips I want in chrome (in person) but I think they may look a little too 'bling bling'

I second s/steel. It's worth the extra money, mind you there is no need to spend big on s/steel. I got a twin tip like the one in the third column, 4th down for about $45-$50 at Supercheap Auto. The guy who did my exhaust said he couldn't even buy s/steel tips for that price! Something worth mentioning however is that cheaper tips may be made of a thinner gauge material which essentially won't last as long.. but who's gonna wait all the years to compare the results that a couple millimeters will make on a s/steel tip? Just a thought.
