Default Ssanyong unable to pay workers

Yep, the Korean brand which is now majority Chinese owned is facing huge troubles. It has $77M USD worth of employee pay it doesn't have funds for.

Before everyone jumps for joy at the likely destruction of a brand that builds some of the ugliest cars ever produced, think about this.

DSI (the new name for Ion / BTR) are a major supplier of transmissions to this firm. They had also been working on using the 6spd hybrid drivetrain that fits inside the current 4spd (ie Falcon E-Gas, RWD Terri gearbox) for future SsangYong products.

This could be a huge blow to DSI.

http://www.caradvice.com.au/20024/ss...ing-backwards/

NB IMO Why Ford Aus didn't adopt this spd hybrid gearbox, i'll blame on Gorman.

I guess we'll be seeing a few more threads like this, Ssangyong not the first to get into trouble and they surely won't be the last. So much for a Merry christmas for all the employees at Ssangyong.

Oh man..... we do have some very unworldy people here don't we? :

Koreans are by majority very stout CHRSITIANS.... (They LOVE their Pork.. more so than beef BTW)

I go to Korea once or twice a year to help run Winter / Summer school vacation camps.

This Winters student numbers are way down on previous years. Everyone is hurting.

My bags are packed... Departing Boxing day morning, returning Australia day just in time to go back to my own school the following day. :

Just as well they copied a Benz again for the Chairman cos they can't design a decent car on their own. About time a bit of rationilization happened in the auto market. Chrysler next.

But between you and me, and the rest of the Aussies... I'm goin on holidays ;) -5 degrees and can't wait. :

Whe the engine plant was due to close, a gearbox manufacturer was rumoured to be wanting to buy the plant to make a new type of auto gearbox, but it depended solely on Ford using it in the Falcon. Guess who.

Can't happen now.

Mate, have you got any links or information in the 6sp Hybrid Drivetrain you mention?

Would be worthy of a new thread too if you did....

chrysler seems to be doing better than gm or ford in the states, so maybe we'll lose ford first?
