Default Climate control playing up

Morning all,

On my way to work this morning, I pressed my trip meter too see my average L/100km. I did then then went to go back round to distance to empty.

As I did this the screen went real dodgey as did the climate control.

Everything worked but the screen was being stupid! I pressed the off button and the change position button like suggested in another thread.

All lights lit up but no change. Just went back to being brocken!

What could this be and how do i fix it?

So when you reset all the digit's lighted up? Sounds like the unit may have just carked it, which i've never heard of them doing that wasn't fixable very the floor/off reset.

Yeah its playing up. Like it doesnt illuminate everything. Like say a 9 looks like a 1.. Its weird, and hard to explain.

When i pressed floor, and off everything lit up then it made a weird noise. Like an arial going up (99% sure it was the vents changing position but was loud and sounded bad).

Then all the illuminated lights go off and it just goes back to being poo..

Then when i change vent position you can hear it again.. Im stuck for ideas..

have you tried the old "ironing of the ribbon trick", when i got mine the display was pretty much non existant, i tried the old trick and mine is now like a new one.

Give us a sec and i will find the link......

4.4 Place baking paper on top or ribbon to stop ribbon melting onto iron
4.5 With moderate pressure, press iron onto ribbon and contacts
4.6 Check contacts/ test in car before refitting into casing.

5.0 Re-assemble in reverse order

**This worked for me, ONLY to restore the display functions thou..hope it helps.!

Sounds like what mont has posted.

I'll just add in that when ribbon repairs like these, i personally like to add a good piece of foam in after it has been iron'd, using the foam to apply a small pressure pushing the contacts down, thus helping to avoid any later probs.

Its just the contacts on the back. Try belting it from the top, or do what mont5.0 said.

Yeah, I was impressed as well.

I posted it down from Bris on the Monday and it arrived back on the Thursday.

At the time it cost $70 + postage... bargain!

I dropped my unit at his house, and picked it up again 2 days later, and has worked for another 2 years without fault !

hey, i'm doing this at the moment... what makes the ribbon stick back on...? i've cleaned the contacts, am i supposed to cut the ribbon to make it stick back on or should i just re-attach it how it was...?
any help would be appreciated ASAP guys, the missus is starting to get upset...lol

im sure theres supposed to be a type of adhesive which the iron re-melts somewhat...

You can do it if your careful buy using the same method and applying a low temp solder to the board, so that it actually solder's the connection when you heat it up.

well... tried it... was in a rush... DON'T cut the ribbon to try and get better contact because it doesn't stick back down... i'm going to stick to the mechanical side of things from now on... not electrical...lol
