Hi all,

Just after some help my car has developed a slight knocking noise in the front mainly when turning or when straightening the wheel. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks Lynda

Just a stab here, but I reckon it could be lower control arm bushes and/or 'D' bushes on the sway bar.

Get a $14 28 point safety check from pedders, and they will give you a report of the condition of your entire suspension system with quotes on cost to repair. You dont have to get it repaired by them of course, but the report is handy.

Let us know what the problem was if you find out.

If its a creeking noise that occurs when turning at low speed, ie 0- 20 kmph it a very good chance its the Steering Rack bolts are slightly loose, as in they need a nip up.Mine made this noise for a while, when I went to get a wheel alignment done I asked him to check it out for me, so 1/16th of a turn of the bolt and it's gone and did'nt cost me a cent because I did'nt get the wheel alighnment done as I was told a new steering rack was required sooner or later because there was a bit of oil leaking from the boots, so I'll wait until I get the new rack before getting a wheel alignment.
Let us know how it goes, pretty sure this is your remedy.

I'm going to go with a lower ball joint. They are an issue on nearly every Falcon ever made and the creaking sound is synonymous with it. Mine made the same noise and turned out to be ball joints.

Hubby had a good look underneath it tonight when you turn wheel makes a creaking sound but when we put it up on the Jack it didn't make it.So obvioulsy only when there's weight on the wheels. Going to take it to Mechanic in morning.
Thanks for your input guys. I'll let the winner know tomorrow.lol

Listen to uncle 347 mont lol (post 6), just needs a bit of tightening on the rack, all will be sweet.

I got a $14 safety check with pedders and thought it was well worth it.

They told me what my knock was and also told me what I should get replaced within 6 months to a year. There was no pressure to get the work done there either.

The dry creaking noise I had in mine when turning at low speeds turned out to be a seized upper ball joint. It wasn't visible with the car jacked up... only showed up when I replaced the 2 uppers while fitting a BA suspension and brakes. But there are a number of possible causes.

I vote for the Pedders $14 safety check too.

It can be a number of things ... and pretty much the main culprits have been mentioned.

I agree with the safety check ... make sure the suspension place as the proper drive-on tester as well. Dry creaking noise could also be air in the power-steering system ... it might not have been bled properly when the rack was replaced (as you mentioned it had been) .. this could be another cause ... it only does this when turning the wheel at standstill or low speeds and with load on it (ie : not up on a hoist).
