Well for a $100 dollar difference you can either expect an awesome (or overpriced) ED or a crap EL.

Does the ED run Coil Packs?
I know the EL doesn't and they have distributor problems but it's not hard to rectify that but if the ED runs a Distributor, you will have the same probs anyway. Head problems are a thing on both of those cars and also being manual, check the firewall for any cracks where the clutch cable comes through. Happy motoring which ever you pick.

I believe it is only the EF that runs coil packs.

It really depends on the car's in question. I'd lean towards the EL even if it's a little worse, but really nobody here can give you any sort of definitive answer given what little information you have provided.

Id say EL because of the fact more devolpment enginewise, better economy, better resale value, lower km's, better looking (IMO)

I was going to say the same. I've owned 2 96 EL's and neither had coil packs. I'd say some EF's may have gotten a quick face lift before the EL was released so it may appear that it was an EL. EDIT: You could mean you had your coil replaced... different to coil packs

Go for which ever car is in better condition.
Yes, an EL has a bit bitter build quality, and a bit more punch, but if it the EL is ragged, whats the point? |

I'd go the ED as I like the shape better. They look tougher, cheap parts, EF and EL are too round for my liking. But it is personal preference really. Go for what you really want mate. Coil packs were only in EF and they had more power than the EL. Silly mistake Ford did with the EL. I would even go for a EF over the EL if you don't like the ED shape
