Default Headphone Tech

I've become more and more unhappy with the (stock) headphones with my mp3 player. As time has passed, like all headphones, the sound has begun to woresen and with the frustration of lack of bass, I've decided to buy new headphones.

I have a pair of noise cancelation headphones that I use at home and the sound is incredible, however they look downright ridiculous and are thus, completely useless for public transport... where I use my mp3 player.

I use it up to 2hrs a day or so.

I've been reading about a lot of different headphones, including canalphones, which i've just learnt about.

What im interested to know is how good are canal headphones vs the big open over the ear headphones? How close to that kind of quality can I expect?

Does anyone recommend a certain kind of headphone (style/brand/type)?

I'm after really good sound....and don't want to look like an alien.

I'm looking at a price range of under $50 to $70. I'll go higher if they are gods gift, but not by far.
