my 4ltr I6 VCT fairlane is seeing a MAXIUMUM of 450km to a 58?ltr tank(standard falcon/fairlane size)!! usually nearer to 400km tho! thats week in week out driving TO work in NON peak hour but normal day time hours traffic. with average speed of 70 and 80kmh with a bunch of 60 thrown in .. in a 20 min trip so approx 1/3 of each speed

costs me $60-70ish to fill her up in QLD

the car has 2.5" press bent exhaust with 1 muffler (no drone unless under LIGHT acceleration)
and has XR8 snorkel and hole cut in front of airbox about business card size
and a K&N panel filter

i thought i was getting terrible economy but it looks like its ABOUT right.
an edit would definatly be in the pipeline to give it some better economy tho?

AUII GHIA + 347 Stroker (& more) + Auto with High stall + needing retune = 22L / 100 around town, and 12L / 100 on the highway (with 3.7's)

Being a lead foot is a factor HOWEVER technique is more important. Anyone who drives my car drives considerably slower than I do but no-one ever gets as good fuel economy as I do.

Over many years of driving carburreted cars I have learnt how to caress the accellerator so as not to waste fuel. Although fuel injection is far more efficient the same general principals apply.

When I'm teaching people to drive (for economy) I tell them that the best way to achieve fuel efficiency is to maintain as steady a speed as possible. You can do this in several ways but mainly it involves reading the traffic ahead. There is no point to rushing up to a slower or stationery line of traffic and then hitting the brakes. Every time you slow down you have to accellerate again - this is where most people waste fuel. Also do not try to maintain your speed up hills - allow the car to slow a little and then accellerate on the downhill - uses a lot less fuel when gravity does most of the work for you. To this end you should avoid using CC in undulating country.

To illustrate my point ... last weekend I did a drive of almost 1500km - the first half (middle of the night) I was pressing on quite briskly and averaged 105 km/h for the journey. I'm not going to divulge the actual speed I was travelling in the faster stages in order to achieve this average but let's just say it was enough to lose a licence on the spot. On the return journey (an exact mirror trip) I stuck to a "safe" 10km/h above the posted limits as it was all daytime driving on well-known roads. The difference in fuel consumption for the return leg was only 5 litres less.

AUII XLS Utility EGAS I6 4.0L (Factory Dedicated LPG)
2.5 cat back exhaust ... redline air filter ... Tickford snorkel.
Vehicle lowered 1.5"
standard 4-speed automatic ... standard diff gears.

City: from 90L of LPG
very hard driving plus loaded up: 450km (20L/100km)
cruising fairly empty: 500km 18L/100km

Metro/outer Metro: from 90L of LPG
very hard driving plus loaded up: 500km (18L/100km)
cruising fairly empty: 600km (15L/100km)

Highway: from 84L of LPG
With luggage and 2 adults: 760km (11.05L/100km)
Had a non-working fuel gauge at the time as well .... hoping to test this again soon though.

I'd say these would be average figures though for an EGAS Falcon ... some more mods to come as well.

T3 TS50 Auto Highway= 720-740km per tank (68L). Calculated DTE + DT (distance travel) CC on. Two adults in the front, two kids, pillows, toys in the back and the boot full, travelling at about 105-110kph with a few hard accelerations thrown in (try to avoid these...... however fun it maybe).

Town= 350-425km. Difficult to determine as Moranbah is a small town and to get somewhere is only a seven minute drive, no lights or roundabouts.

I have seen 9.5L per 100 on the average fuel usage during a trip. Most times it reads about 10.5L per 100. I don't think that this average fuel consumption reading is all that accurate. 10L per 100 kms should equate to 680kms, not 700+.

Just completed a trip with the wife, kids, BLAH, BLAH. Moranbah - Bundaberg return. Personally I believe that Moranbah must get the crappist fuel around and sell it at a premium price. Always seem to get worse fuel economy with local fuel then what you get from coastal suppliers. The reason I say this is because on the way to Bundy after fueling up, averaged (according to computer) 11.2L. On the way home after fueling up at a Mobil servo, got straight 10L per 100kms and achieved 745km+ for the tank (not sure if it is a one off thing but it was good to see). In the 100 zones, sat on about 105-107, 110 zones, sat on about 115-117. Passed a few police cars and they didn't seem to worry (if any of you lads are reading this, thanks for that).

Generally monitor fuel consumption while travelling and try keep a close eye on the factors that may affect it (wind direction, road conditions, etc). Hell, what else is there to do when your travelling 700 odd kms and everyone is asleep except you.

AU1 XL manual ute
No mods as yet
82 litre tank

City easy driving ≈ 600 km per tank
City harder driving ≈ 400-500km

Highway, best effort was 300km for about 20-30 litres (Fuel gauage was at 3 quarters full), done this twice. That gives 800-1200 km per tank.

Cheers

from the supercharged 5L in my au xr8, i recently got 620 from a 70l tank of ultimate. thats around 11.5 l/100klm which is good cuz that blower is pumping all the time so needs alot of fuel to compensate.

aroudn town im looking at about 500-550.

The general consesus looks as though the AU'S quite thirsty around town.
I seem to be getting more out of my VX SS around town and it has 1.7 litres more engine displacment?
Freeway economy on the AU'S looks bloody good though!
I wonder whether their town mileage is poop because of the high ratio first gear?

I'd say you could be on the money there ... also depends what revs the engine is doing at cruising speed as well.
