Cool aftermarket 6" speaker not working

i just bought a pair of 220w sony 6" speakers. i mounted them in the top of my dual 12" sub box against the back seat of my ef wagon. i removed the cover for the seatbelt to gain access to the wiring for the rear speakers. when i hook them up the driver's side(blue wires) doesn't work, yet the factory speker does. Help!

Wierd. You might have to redo the wiring. Shouldn't take that long. If you can't follow the original path you might be able to do the old "under the kick panel" job. That's what I do when I'm running out of patience.

Mine was already done when I bought it so I can't help you with that. But have you tried testing the speakers before putting them in the car? I normally do it if they're second hand just into my home system. You shouldn't have to do that but it may save you some time...

u mounted speakers into the top of ur sub box? or did i miss understand? :? if so thats possibly the quickest way to kill them, because ur subs run a low pass filter they dont recieve the same beat as the sound that copmes from ur speakers. the air waves that r put out from the subs will be possible working against the speakers, making them work hard.

how ever if u use mounting spacers not a bad idea to get good sound at the back seats ;)

Just run new wires, sounds like maybe the one blue wire was dual core, if its an aftermarket head unit then wiring that up should be a peace of ИИИИ.
Oh and too dansince86, your correct in thinking that it will make the speakers work harder, too save your speakers get some speaker baffles.

They are a plastic cone that goes behind the speaker/over the magnet and they help give the speaker much more bass, reason being is nothing works well free to air, most subwoofers need a box, and addding a baffle to a speaker gives it that sealed sound much more crisp IMO. The baffles will also stop the pounding air coming from the woofers from trying to pop your speakers right outa that box.

This above comment is a perfect way to kill your home amplifier

Car speakers are generally 4Ohm, home systems tend to be 8ohm

When you put a 4ohm speaker onto an 8ohm amp, things get hot, and stop working for a magical, mystical reason, which I'd rather not try and explain.

Why not just run a 2 foot lead from the headunit to the speaker to test, and if it works, run a whole new lead into the boot from the headunit, through the car, under all the doortrims (like, on the bottem of the floor theres a plastic guard, unscrew it and put your lead through there etc)

.....

If it's only the right side not working, and the left is, then swap the speakers around to see if it's the speakers (that's a better idea than the 2 foot idea). If you have the same problem, then try the 2 foot idea, and if you still have no volume, your headunit is screwed :P

volcom20's idea is a much better one. I failed to mention that my home amp is 6ohm and I only test the speaker for a few seconds. : I did it to save time and I've never buggered anything, but if you've got the time, volcom20's way's definately the way to go.

well i didnt test them as they are barnd new. i pluged the speaker into the left output and it works. the head unit shouldnt be stuffed as the factory speaker works but it could be the head unit as i got it off my older sister...i'll run new wires and get those baffles. and they r ok 4 now as the subs r'nt hooked up, no amp yet:(
thanks for the help people!
