Default Free tyre rotations at Bob Jane T mart

Missus recently got new tyres fitted and Bob Janes offer free tyre rotations and wheel allignment over the life of the tyre every 10,000k's.

The first rotation was done today at 5,000k's as recommended by them.

What i dont get is how can they afford all these so called 'free' rotations for the life of the tyres.

The labour costs must be factored into the prices of the new tyres?

labour costs would be very small for them..would take them 15mins tops. cost of good word of mouth out weighs the small cost of labour..

I guess its boosts their initial sales, and hopefully the customer will purchase the next set of tyres off them. Also while doing the rotations, any other problems they find that can be fixed in their shop, is more potential income for them.

Exactly - then there are other factors:

1) People can't be bothered dropping in to get it done.
2) People lose the paperwork / receipt needed - shops love handing out gift vouchers for this very reason, many never get used.
3) Those that do return make the workshop look 'busy'. When a passer by sees a busy workshop they assume they are good at what they do and are worth a visit - much the same as the way people know to avoid an empty restaurant.
4) Gives a chance for them to tell you when your tyres need replacing again before you take it somewhere else.

Or you'll probably agree for other work if they do servicing like Kmart tyre/auto when your car is already up on the hoist.

I never get tyres from a tyre shop anymore, order them in off the net for what tyre I want, and then take it to the local joint for them to fit it, balance and do wheel alignment on the car. Last time I was in there they said they'd had 8 other customers do the same thing in the same day.

Do my own servicing then rotate the tyres on service.

My local Tyrepower has offered this service for yonks, in fact I have bought my last 4 sets out of there.

For my free tyre rotation and balance I just have to book in and that's that. They just look me up on their system so I don't have to dig around for my purchase receipt.

I keep a very close eye on my tyres so if I have any signs of scrubbing or abnormal wear I usually spot it before they do. I have to pay for wheel alignments but they never push it on to me unless an issue is identified and reported.

Their tyres are competitively priced and their service is very professional.

Glad your local Tyrepower looks after you, the one in my area would have to be jerks who would rip you off, even their head office is useless for handling complaints.

I suppose all tyre franchises have their pro's & cons.

That's what it all gets down to, the individual franchisee and how they conduct themselves. The one I go to is excellent, that franchisee has been there for years. I've also noticed his staffing is very stable, I see mostly the same guys in the workshop whenever I'm there.

There is another Tyrepower in the general area which is the same deal, a long term franchisee running it. I've never bought from him but he has a very good reputation.

I'd imagine in any industry if a franchisee is a jerkoff and ruining the company name they'd have procedures in place to deal with it. Surely????

Just make sure they don't over tighten the nuts with their rattle guns, there is nothing worse than having to get a breaker bar or having a stud snap.

It can be a selling point and create loyal customers as well with the word of mouth factor.
For alot of people, cars are just tools that need adjusting every now and then.

If they go to some place they can rely on and also feel respected, then they shall return and things like the free wheel rotation is like the icing on the cake.

Bob Jane out my way is fantastic, cant praise them enough.

Which site do you purchase them off Big Damo? Are they competitively priced?

I speak from experience and this was a reputable Bob Jane outlet. Forget about them doing rotations and wheel alignments.

Do rotations yourself, then you can keep track of the wheels and tyres yourself, and you know the nuts are done up at the correct torque setting.

Do NOT get the repeat alignments done by them. They don't take the care (as they are not being paid) and could well end up with scrubbed tyres like I got some years ago after they aligned my wheels as part of a similar Bob Jane offer. Reason being the rear cam bolts were not tightened properly. That happened again at a different tyre dealer with my BA. Now I only go to a reputable suspension specialist for my wheel alignments.

^This. Half the ****ers there don't know how to align an old falcon using the castor rods and the eccentric on the lower arm.

Brought a gauge and now do it myself.

For rotations just park in port adelaide or elizabeth, tyres will be taken off for you and rotated for bricks.

interesting fact I just found out is that Bob Jane cant do any mechanical work in there workshops, I booked in for a wheel alignment and told them I wanted a tie rod end replaced, they kindly informed me they were not doing any of that sort of work anymore and to take it to a mechanic, then bring it back for a alignment...apparently can't change shocks, can't fit springs, just wheels, tyres, maybe a alignment if nothing else needs to be replaced

If your mechanic rotated your tyres and didn't alert you to a problem under your car what sort of mechanic would he be? Kmart also give free rotations after 10k and have details in computer. Last time I was there they said rear pads getting low but not yet. Ford service 3 weeks later same deal but no need. recent service at Ford they say still got 5k in them bring it back later. I know they don't but I would hope most mechanics would operate like this, by keeping you informed of whats going on.

This is customer relationship building 101. If a customer is in your shop 2-3 times a year, they are more likely to feel obliged to give you the repeat business when you need another set of tyres. The other side of the coin is we are all time poor, and the more contact you have with them the less opportunity you have to "build a relationship" with another tyre retailer.

tyreright do the free rotation
but its just that a free rotation

if you want another balance etc you need to pay for that
rotating your tyres is a good thing
i think this because ive learnt the hard way
i didnt rotate and the insides were completely smooth
rotations every 3 thou kms made the tyres last a good 5000 kms longer
