Angry Tolls revealed for Brisbane's new Airportlink route

Tolls revealed for Brisbane's new Airportlink route

Robyn Ironside June 28, 2012 9:58AM 17 comments
I
MOTORISTS will be able to use the new Brisbane Airportlink for three months before paying any tolls.

BrisConnections boss Ray Wilson will announce full details of the tolling charges for the tunnel later this morning.

After the toll-free period finishes in late October, motorists will enjoy a further six-months of discounted tolls ranging from $2 for shorter trips to $2.50 for the full Bowen Hills to Toombul stretch.

After that tolls will rise to $2.90 and $3.75 for cars before reaching the full amount of $3.67 and $4.90 in 15 months time.

Dr Wilson said Airportlink was expected to be finished on July 27 and open on July 31 or August 1, slashing travel times between the CBD and the airport by up to 20 minutes.

He said the toll decision followed 18 months of consultation with groups and indsutry associations to get feedback on their intended usage of Airportlink.

I'd rather a speed camera, than a toll....

It's a wonder they didn't learn from the Clem7 tunnel..

Public rebate in this country means that a government who borrows money to provide decades of infrastructure to the public is wreckless but letting a public company do it and charge a fee to the public is OK.

The Government can borrow at cheaper inteest rates than business or individuals and doesn't have to make a profit, Governments are there to provide the services and infrastructure that can't be provided on a commercial basis.

Still, if previous patterns are repeated, the operator will go broke and the Government should then buy it at a significant discount to the cost of the project.

In any case, $4.50 to get to the airport from the city without delay is worthwhile after the time I wasted getting home to Melbourne after Cold Chisel in Brisbane in December last year.

After losing my licence in the CLEM7 for a broken speed camera system, I will certainly NOT be going through anymore of these multimillion dollar snakes.

Agreed, will prob go toll free for a bit and the reduced tolls to get people to use it like the Clem7 too.
Another white elephant.

The classic fail-safe drug-dealer business model. Make it cheap and easy to start with and than ramp the price up when they get addicted.

Can't blame them - without tolls all Brisbane's roads would be like Parramatta Rd in Sydney.... We'll reap the benefits of having a Civil Engineer as Lord Mayor for a long time to come.

Remember they said the Storey Bridge was unnecessary when it was built pre-war. It was initially tolled too. Now it's free and image brisbane without it!

Cool Re: Tolls revealed for Brisbane's new Airportlink route

All this about free rides for the first month
then $2 or $3
never a mention of truck and or ute rates
clem7 is $3 great in a car then if you use truck or ute $9
I recon that the same thing will happen on airport link
we are looking at $10 or more per trip
also last week in a loaded truck I saw the sign at the Gabba
entrance to the Clem 7 minutes to Lutwych rd
well we went via the ICB with zero trafic lights
and it took 9 minutes
which way would you go $9 @ 7 minutes or free @ 9 minutes
thats why it doesnt get used enough
John
