Default Kick a Ford

The new Ford Kuga has a kick activated tailgate.

It detects your key in your pocket automatically without you having to take it out and all you have to do is kick it to open it.

I recon its a great idea. So many times have I got to the car with an armfull of stuff & then had to put it down to get the keys out of my pocket.

Theres more info here.

I would think a nudge would be more appropriate otherwise I'd have nothing but dents in the back of my Kuga...

Not sold on it but keen to try it. I like the way it happens in the wifes Lexus - press a button on the remote and it's open by the time you get to the car.

Wonder what happens in an accident? Does your tailgate fly up?

I do like the concept. Moving forward into what the market may demand in the future. Nice one FORD!

I would think that it wouldn't work if the key is in the ignition.

It wouldn't be too long before some smartar$e would be waiting by your Kuga to give it the "kick" just as you were climbing in and have it away with whatever you had sitting back there before you had time to react and hop back out..... unless there's some sort of safety over ride to stop this from happening.

Like every sedan, hatch and wagon on the road that doesn't have anti-hijack enabled? Or like every ute, truck and trailer on the road without a locked lid?

My biggest fear would be looking like an idiot kicking my bumper to open the boot
Sounds like a good idea though, despite the awkwardness of doing it.

Another example of people just getting plain lazy. Press a button or approach your your car and magic happens pfft... Imagine the mental breakdown if god forbid your car battery went flat or your key fob didn`t work
