Default Car Transport - Tasmania to Victoria

I have a car (P5 LTD) which I need picked up from Tasmania (Spreyton 7310) and delivered to Keilor East 3033 (Victoria)

Problem is that it is;

a. not driveable (no engine)
b. no steering (steering wheel and column removed)

My guess is that this pretty much renders the car unable to be transported by any of the car carriers

Is my only option getting it on a trailer and taking the Spirit of Tasmania?

Any assistance or options greatly appreciated

The car trailer would be my approach. It cost me a fair whack to get my coupe here. I have not had any success with trying car courier companies unless it runs. Steve at totalfreightsolutions.com.au/ might be able to help. He is a really nice guy and helped me get a big block form Adelaide for the right price

I would be sorting the steering and then it could get on and off a flat tray easy. It can go on the Spirit as freight, as long as it is flat trayed on and off. You would be looking at $400 - $500 as a freight item, but you can get a proper quote by calling the freight number on their website. It would cost you a fair bit more than that on a trailer I would imagine as you pay approx $80 a meter over 5 meters.

You can also try Allalong Tasmania Searoads.
My parents moved down there to Ulverstone and I sent heaps of stuff with them. Prices were good too.

Looks like a holiday opportunity to me. Do you golf? Plenty of great curses on the north coast of Tas. I think you will find it cheaper to tow it yourself than pay someone else.

A little FYI to all those wishing to transport "non-driveable" vehicles from Tas-mel or Mel-Tas via the Spirit of Tasmania

Every Saturday (departing Devonport) the Spirit of tasmanaia can take TWO non driveable cars

All that is required is that the car is dropped off directly onto the boat by tray truck or whatever means you can.

Then the car needs to be received at the other end.

This service only costs $531.98

As such, I have booked in my Ford LTD parts car to be delivered to me in Melbourne for a around $680. Which in my books is a win.

$150 to the tow truck driver (plus jockey) who will drop it off plus the $532 to Spirit of Tasmania

Something which I feel other AFFers would like to know for future use

For me to drive across with trailer and return with the car would have cost me $1100 for the car and trailer plus $250 for the recliner seats.
