Default Rebuilt 1500GT running like crap

Hi Guys, need some help with newly installed motor in a 1500 GT Capri (same as Mk1 Cortina GT).
Had the motor rebuilt and had new GT500 Cam put in and twin weber carbie rebuilt same time and car is running extremely rough.
Have tried to make some adjustments to the fuel mixture but that hasnt helped yet.
The plugs were new and when taken out after 20 minutes running were black sooty and dry which suggests the mixture, it was running that rough i didnt think i was going to get it to drive the 500m to home.......
The timing was done at 10 TDC but have now heard it should be alot higher because of the cam, any ideas???
Any suggestions would be appreciated as i'm getting desperate.......

Default Re: Rebuilt 1500GT running like crap

Seeing as the carby has been worked on it might be good to see if the float level is right.
The gt500 cam isnt too wild so I would have thought that it should run ok with the old settings. It will need the timing altered tho probably up to about 13 btdc static. Max advance will need altering too. There is a very good article about ignition timing for modified engines over on the turbosport forum, look at the xflw pinto bda tc section the article is right near the top. I keep refering to it all the time. Cheers,...ron.
