Getting on the pricey side and really approaching the XR8 for pricing.

I think it's quite a reasonable price for the T with 6 speed auto.

I'd buy one in a flash if I had the moolah...

I can only comment on the XR6 manual ute here, but the BF is only about $100 more then the BAII was. Damn, i'd pay that for an extra 8Kw! D'oh!

Considering how popular the XR6T is, it seems many think it's priced reasonably well, it's the XR8 that must be concerning Ford now though. It's as if they are content for it to fade away with buyers opting for the Turbo that is marginally less.

you know things have changed when you can option an auto transmission for less than you pay for an alternate paint colour ($1500+ for the paint)

And you stand a better chance of the auto not having defects. :

Looks good to me.

Hmmm can still get the 4 speed auto on the XR6...

Why would they bother doing that?

Good for resale i guess for those of us who still only have 4 speeds.

It's actually aimed at the user choose fleet market where there is often a $40k cap on the vehicle price - FoA have recognised the large voulme they sell into that market space and left a model priced to meet it - either a clever marketing move or (more likely) a happy accident.

Cheers
Russ

Aah, good to see my old favourite pricing policy in action! And it is especially warming to see it in evidence in the BF incarnation, with the BF XR8 copping precisely 2/3 of FA changes compared to the other models.

XR6 Turbo 6-speed auto $41,695 Ute
XR6 Turbo 6-speed auto $47,655 Sedan
--------------------------------------
Difference = $5960

XR8 6-speed auto $42,845 Ute
XR8 6-speed auto $52,580 Sedan
---------------------------------
Difference = $9735

Now, which do you think is true?
a) XR8 sedan is stupidly overpriced, and especially so now in BF
b) XR6 turbo ute is stupidly overpriced

The Falcon XR8 remains at the pinnacle of the Ford performance tree with classic new looks including new 18-inch rims, new front bumper and new tail lamps. The signature bonnet bulge remains, housing the potent 5.4-litre DOHC V8, which can now be optioned with the new six-speed automatic transmission.

as far as I understand fairlane would have the bigger brakes, DSC and 6 speed already, while the XT needs to upspec the brakes and go to the 6 speed auto, and adds the stability control when it gets the V8

Spot on...
This was the reason i went with an XR8 Ute when the BA come out, the price difference was much the same then also....it swayed me away from the turbo ute....Ford may be using it as a sales ploy....
best thing about the Utes $10k difference when you buy them new, now on resale around $3k difference comparing to the sedans...
No Ute for me this time tho..
