bad luck on clide mountain

Hey all,

I was driving to the coast the other day and thought it would be a good idea to try out the new Koni adjustables on the corners around the clide.

Well we got to the top of the clide and just before teddy bear corner (people who have driven the clide will know what I mean), I hit a patch of oil doing 40 and lost the car

, I had a choice between a rock wall and a metal side rail so I went straight into the metal rail.

I cracked the front bar in 4 places and smashed the drivers side head lights.

Luckly there were no other cars on the road and we all got out without injury.

I spent most of today repairing the minor body damage on the front and straightening out the brackets that hold the front bar on.

I also got onto the phone with AWCINFO and ordered the XR50 kit.

Ill post up pics when I have had a chance to sort them out.

I will also be selling the rear bar and front bar to who ever wants them, the rear bar is in good condition, but the front bar needs a fair bit of work to repair.

Where abouts are you and what are the bodykit parts? Std or XR bars?

I to have hit an oil patch when braking... i had to ditch the car into a gutter to stop... i now have a series 2 car with ABS... much safer now

I am located in Cooma, NSW.

The rear bar is the a standard XR rear bar, meaning it doesnt have the little Xr lip on it.
As for the front bar it is the standard XR series II front bar.

Ah... about 5 hours south of me according to Google maps :P

I was slightly considering the bodykit... but the distance would be a pain in the butt :P

Got any pics of the damage? did t do anything stucturally?

The rear bar is fine no damage there.

The front bar has suffered 4 cracks and 1 chunk was taken out, hence the reason I would basically give it away, as for the rear since it is a genuine bar with litttle to no damage I would ask around $400 for it.

That Clyde can be a real hazzard in the wet. We had planned to go there yesterday on bikes, but decided against it due to the weather. So we headed to Wee Jasper instead.

This was the only other place that took a hit, but even then it was only very slight.

I managed to straighten it all up pretty easily, none of the steel supports were cracked or stressed, very lucky indeed.

Just before we hit the side rail I managed to steer away slightly and took it all on that side.

The front bar took all of the force, very well made.

I later found out that when the Hot mix on the road has been dry for more than a few days and it rains oil comes out of the hot mix.

After a day of banging around and repairing bent brackets I managed to pull the front bar back in and line it up a bit.
