I think its the S5 solenoid in the auto that is adjustable? Someone will correct me on this. Believe me its possible. And the look on peoples face when a stock lookin AU forte changes gears at 80km/h and steps out sideways towards them is priceless.... on the track of course
Mine was an electronic shift kit but not like the ones my friends at shiftkits.com.au have. It was way harder. I used mine at the track and it made my car slower but very spectacular when it kicked out sideways at 100kmph. The s5 solenoid on the au is adjustable as it increases the gearboxes line pressure. The reason the car chirps with the hard kit is that it revs the guts out of the car and then savagely slams in the next gear. The problem is that if your cars power dies down before the shift you will slow down because the car over revs past its peak power. What you guys should be looking for is a firm shift as possible to minimise shift time and firmly into the next gear. If you can lessen the shift lag you will be quicker.

That exactly what Im looking for Stav. Is the s5 solonoid adjustable from the outside? Is it a bit of trial and error to get it where you like it?

I had my old s5 floating around the house some time back. It actually has a little screw adjuster in the end of it but I havent had mine adjusted that way. However it is the right way to try it. It sits inside the valve body assembly with the other solenoids so it would be fiddly to do.

My old EA use to chirp very easily from 1st to 2nd. For an old car with Central Point Injection & over 250,000km on the clock she went very hard. She would even take ED XR6's and would sit side by side with my brothers EL XR6. Looked & sounded spectacular, especially when taking a tool in a VL Commo at the lights, but in saying that, about 6months after it started to chirp, the box ate reverse, then chewed the rest of itself up aswell. I can highly recommend not trying to get it to chirp, and if anyone's already does, get it looked at, cause gearbox's aren't cheap to replace, I had to fix the one in the EA twice, and my AU box just recently ate itself aswell.
With what i have spent on gearbox's over the past few years, i would have been able to buy plenty of other "Goodies" for the car.

Yes it is a fiddly job to adjust the s5 solenoid. Better of leaving it for the transmisson guys. Mine changed gears fast and hard. It was good when it was my car but when my i gave it to my now ex-wife she hated it. Shifted really hard jerked your neck when you didnt want it to. But give it a boot of the line and come 80km/h in the dry or wet hold on cause it was a bit loose. A very fun car to drive and i now regret selling the old thing.

I am lucky that I have the haltech interceptor in my car as I am considering running my hard shift kit again but letting the rpm output from the interceptor to custom tune the shift timing .That way it wont be kicking out but firm enough to throw the car forward as it changes gear.

I have a very tuff trans in my lane
it chirps 2nd a little bit (never been up it long enough to get to 3rd at full throttle)

the box is valve body and i think S5 adjusted to make it handle a turbo motor...

the ONLY down side is when slowing down it shifts just as hard as when going up the gears (REAL annoying when cruising leisurly into your street then you get rammed in the **** as it shifts down the 1st at 45kmh)

big shiftkits chew out unijoints in the tail shaft due to the shock(bearings hate shock loading) and the diff probably doesnt like it for the same reason
and also transmission mounts probably take a beating too

but damn its nice seeing peoples face when a fairlane shifts like a ferrari haha

just put rubbish tyres on your car. like seriously crap tyres. i put "gemstone" 17's on my car and they have less grip than my old bald treads lol

mine chirps 1-2 sometimes when my foot is flat cause of no grip lol its mad.

get 15" stockos with 195/50/15 second hand schitte tyres. Then spend craploads on the engine, bucketloads on the gearbox, strip all the interior out of it and get custom carbon fibre/kevlar panels. Then (and only then) carefully apply either a 'jetpilot,' 'No Fear' or 'HSV I just want one' sticker to the back window.

Now that you are worthy of racing a VL on equal terms, chirp the wheels into second and launch the car sideways into a crowded public school. This will ensure that you are held in high regard, not just by the VL brigade, but all commodore drivers VB thru VE.

Yes, a worthy goal.

Alternatively, pm me your mate's email address and I will destroy his world.

dont even worry about chirping....your obvioulsy young...start getting out of that silly stuff now and save people laughing at you.....either sell it and buy something faster...or slap on extractors and a full exhaust system, CAI, flash tune and get the line pressure upped on the gear box....should be moving then

I think I have seen enough of this thread.

Chirping is for birds, not tyres.
