Evening all,
I'm sure i'm not the only one who has encountered this, the shh-shh noise from the handbrake as a result of not releasing properly, is there a final solution to fixing this? just so i can tell a mechanic EXACTLY how to fix it permanently (since all they do is just tension the cable and it comes back again). Thanks all. |

Set fire to it?
![]() Seriously though, if you do find a cure for it, let me know.

well the one on my 8 is not just a shh-shh, it's an embarassingly loud squeal, sometimes it's an even worse knocking noise that i can hear in the cabin.

Yeah mine sometimes gets the squeal. I can adjust it 'till the cows come home, but it just keeps coming back. Some say that replacing the shoes will fix it, but that didn't work either.

just roll backwards in reverse slowly and rip the handbrake on. Seems to fix it for a while until i try to drive with the hand brake on. Hasn't done it for a while now though because i release the handbrake then change gears before driving.

its a design fault there is nothing to centre the handbrake shoes when they are released. you can put new linings on them that seems to work for about a year average km (20,000) but it will come back. commodores, magnas and any other rear end utilizing these banksia brakes all suffer from this.
