Although there were only 3 of us on the track yesterday, we did manage to have fun.

It seems a trend has been set. That is, the fastest driver is the one who at one stage or another makes a cross country detour. Last month it was George kindly mowing the lawn for the track's neighbours, and now this month David (xr8ute) let the ar5e end hang too much and caused a sandstorm by ending up in the "end up in there and you're taken off, no second chances" gravel patch... luckily for him he quickly made his way back onto the hard stuff before anyone took notice... Only I took notice as I was right behind him... so to make Dave feel better about his stuff up, I decided to spin out and lose control... on purpose of course /bullsiht

Fastest lap ever by any of us from any of the meets we've had, was David's 31.9xx. So, as per his avatar, he's the STIG for this month!!!!

Rugernenn came in at 2nd fastest with a good time of about 32.4xx. The mindset he has with his road cars ("lets brake some factory components so we can replace them with some racing components") was implemented during yesterdays race when he bent the steering on his first kart.

I, was beaten, again. I put too much octane booster in the fuel tank and that wreaked havoc with the oxy sensors :P

hehehe was an awesome time out. Some good racing but the standout was mr xr8ute! I think he got the octane boost mix right :P

That steering arm was definately no good so i had to break it so it not to disadvantage any other karters that use that kart. I was just doing them the favor!

The next event will be on sunday the 6th of april and i look forward to that one

Was definitely good fun, some geat dicing at the start of the second session. I thought it was over when I stuffed it into the gravel at the end of the straight, but it felt a little better to see Falc'man fly off with me in sympathy, lol.

How weird is it when you jump back into a normal car to drive home....the fairmont felt less responsive than a fishing trawler...lol.

Looking forward to the next session. Hopefully we get a few more guys out there again.

:( Sorry I missed it all guys, I hope to make the next one.
Congrats to the new Stig, its not surprise really, you know all great drivers start out in Fairmonts. Its a little know fact that Lowndes Bathurst winning V8 supercar started life as a Fairmont on the production line, and even Michael Schumacher has had secret training courses in Fairmonts aswell.

Ok lads.... New Kart track in Revesby, due to be open in a couple of weeks.

Not sure exactly where it is nor do I have the website address.

The karts here have 3 gears... so I'm guessing they're gonna have a bit more speed than your average 14hp kart... just guessing though. Apparently its a tight and twistie circuit as well. Also being new, they would need us to run them in properly for them...

Will learn more in coming days, but in the meantime if anyone knows the name of this new site please advise. Cheers.

Dave, you're used to driving up to Sydney Metro on a daily basis so I hope you can still make it for this too

As for the date, we will be sticking to Sunday the 4th of May for now, but will advise of any changes.

Thanks for the link Dave.

To save you guys some time and money George and I will be scouting this track soon, and will give you a rundown on how well it stacks against the track at Kembla Grange....

9HP and 3 gears (tight looking track) VS 14HP and 1 gear (fast track with hair-raising corners).

The advantage of this new track is new karts one would assume and so therefore, no excuses of having slow underperforming karts...

/I now have to come up with new excuses :

It's good to mix it up a little bit and it sound like its worth it.
I mean Picton was only 7HP, so 9HP with a tight ciruit should be good.
It really depends on how much Fun we can have. Being new they might be fairly strict?

Just got back from scouting the track. Afterthoughts are:
Karts - fantastic - gearbox is nice but the up and down is backwards from a bseries and sequential race cars. Being a person that drives alot of race sims on pc's it was confusing lol but not a proplem. Size - The karts dont have traditional kart seats and the bigger blokes might have problems with them (i have no problems fitting in the kembla grange karts but these ones were extremely tight). They do have larger size karts but there was only 1. Im not sure if they are going to get more or not. Karts are quick and nice to drive.

The track - This was a let down. The track is simply too small for these karts and the indoor surface not as good for grip. Because of this in my eyes kembla grange comes out on top as the more enjoyable drive. The hairpins are simply too narrow to carry any speed through (whereas kembla granges hairpin you can carry alot of speed and really feel the grip through it). The track doesnt do these karts justice. Surface is too slippery track is too narrow.

saying that though i did enjoy it greatly but i dont see how you can comfortably race with more than half a dozen cars on the track

Exactly what George The 351st said.

Kembla Grange is more hair raising and as a whole experience is better.

Overtaking is difficult with such tight and narrow hairpins. Driving these karts is a treat... IF you get one to fit. Thats their only downfall... in the 1st session I was sitting in a kart that would be better suited to a 13 year old. Way too cramped, I could barely steer the thing due to right leg being cramped between seat moulding and steering... which also meant I couldn't use the pedals correctly either (there you go, I knew I'd find an excuse). Session 2 I had the large kart which was perfectly suited. These seats are a plastic mould as per the pics on the site so getting back into the Futura I felt I was in the lap of luxury.

On the plus side the gearing is quite good, with 1st gear providing enough grunt to keep the rears turning hard. With a better less twisty track this would be an awesome track to go to on a monthly basis. They also handled quite well since they're quite new and still screwed together... George will "fix" that....

They don't have track timing yet. And since its a new circuit they might be swayed to redesigning the track layout to make it a bit more enjoyable. Most importantly, they do need to invest in larger karts... I wouldn't want us as a group to go there and find them too small for some of the bigger fellas... no fun in that at all.

Just an update re the Indykarts at Revesby

I got invited there during the week by a few guys not from AFF. Well, I must say I really like these karts. I went there worrying about fitting into a smaller kart since I knew the only large kart would be taken by another guy who I knew would need to have it more than myself. So I got into one of the "smaller" karts, but this time I didn't feel as cramped as I did when I first went there. This kart was cramped but at least this time my leg never jammed the steering/pedals. It was very drivable and really enjoyed it.

Anyway, most importantly I spoke to the owner about the problem of having bigger guys trying to drive them, and he did say they are modifying them to suit the bigger boys. Withing a few weeks they'll have another 4 karts that'll have their steering column's on less of an angle and more to the vertical, thus allowing a bit fit for the large guys.

Also, the track itself is under revision. Other's have expressed that it is a bit tight and overtaking is difficult. But that isn't the real problem with it being so tight. If corners aren't taken correctly on some hairpins a driver will find himself stuck in the barrier lol, which in turn will block the following karts. Yes, it's that tight. Personally, I really loved the track as it made it hard for overtaking and more rewarding when a pass is made.

A big thumbs up from me, in the future I will be going there more often than not.

===============================

Alright next Sunday the 4th of May we're scheduled for another trip to Kembla Grange. Hopefully they'll have the wet weather tyres on ;)
