You would think that it's not that hard to find a shed somewhere, anywhere, you could store 'The Beast' for a couple of years. It is!
Does anyone know someone who got a shed (preferably away from the coast) where I could store my car for a couple of years? Happy to pay for it (say $400/year), just did not want to have to pay big dollars for a self-storage shed. Anywhere within 500-1000km's of Sydney. Any suggestions would be much appreacated ('The Beast' is 1974 XB coupe) |

Some self storage centers have carparks where you can leave them quite cheaply. They are outside of course but most people wrap them up in car covers. Full security in a fenced camered yard. I work for a storage company in Tas and we have quite a few people storing cars. the outside cars are quite crap though. combis and trucks etc. a couple of crappy skylines. The decent cars go into storage units but then your talking a few bucks.

All i can think of is some storage centres. Try some inland towns. The rental there is normally heaps cheaper than Sydney.

I've got an empty garage but I rent (intend on moving in about 12 months) and am in SE Vic (although I'm about 40kms from the nearest coast as the crow flies). Does the storage deal entitle taking it out for the occasional cruise lol.
All jokig aside I would probably be seriously interested if you were nearby to me actually.

Hi. I've had my GTP stored at Pyrmont Car Storage for almost 4 years now. I think you'll be pushing it to get storage for $400 per year unless someone can rent you their garage. To give you an idea, it costs me $1400 per year including GST which I think is pretty reasonable. Cheers. Jim

have you considered buying a shipping container and putting it on someones property.
might be able to find a farmer out in central nsw for exsample thats willing to spare you a few square metres of paddock easier then finding a shed that they know they wont want for 4 years. cost you 2 to 4 grand for a shipping container depending on size and condition and you can sell it again when your finished. that way you put your car in and lock it up and know your the only one with keys to get in.

There are undercover storage facilities that are roughly half the price of enclosed storage, all in the same facility so you get the security. Still Id throw a car cover over it too. A1 storage in Eumundi have such a facility, not that that location is any good to you.

be carful with shipping containers as they swet if thats the case I would recoment putting a fulse roof on it and a wirly bird type thing so keep it dry inside other wise you risk opening it up in a few years and finding only the plastic bits left

You need to meet some farmers. I have my XY, Cortina and Valiant all stored in farm sheds for the grand total of a slab every now and then when I'm passing through town. Can't wait to get my own place and re-unite all my cars.

Thanks to everyone and all of your suggestions.
I have tried ads in various local newspaers without sucess, put ads on the internet, spend hours looking for places on the internet with no luck. You are right, the ideal place would be some farmer in the courty with a big shed - they are out there, just hard to track down (espically if you are in the city) I will try a couple of the suggestions posted (Its been at my mum's place for a couple of months and SHE WANTS IT GONE!) |
