OK im going to be undertaking my first long trip in my car...Any tips?

Take water for you and the car.
Try to take spare top and bottom hoses and belts.
Also make sure your spare tyre is pumped up.

oil (+filter) change, fuel filter change, clean airfilter, possibly change. air in your tyres should be @ manufacturer's specs or slightly higher. check coolant level and check for any leaks

maybe a spare head and a vrs kit????

Do a service on your car and also get your auto checked for piece of mind
and the most important one take it easy and dont stress how long it takes. need a break do it.

LMFAO, i take one with me everyday! it comes in card form and it has NRMA printed on it lol about time someone said something funny lol

my auto is pretty clunky???? that going to be a problem.........it does highway trips pretty easily......travel 1000ks a week with ease.......

going to subscribe with NRMA before i leave.....

the trip is from sydney to surfers!!!

yep but how far is your long trip

a long trip for me is like 5000klm but for you it might be 1000klm there is a heap of diff for each of those trips as to what to do for prevention

1000ks each way is not to much to worry about

i would get your auto serviced before going on the trip though more so in the humid area you are heading

here in geelong they cost around 75 -100 depending on the auto

so i am not to sure on what it would cost in sydney

Last auto service I had done was on a VR Commo about a year or so ago. Cost $140.

From memory it was also around that on my old EF Futura.

Which way you going?

If you don't have any plans to stop off or visit places on the coast I would highly recommend the New England Highway over the Pacific. Much less trucks, and misses some dangerous bits up on the NSW North Coast. Can be a bit more boring but a lot more cruisy, less stressed drive. Coming down the mountain between Warwick and Ipswich is a highlight, Moonbi hill north of Tamworth can be fun too. A word of warning though, the Pacific is slower to the border, then you are right on the GC but the New England is quicker to the Border but you still have 2 hours or so to the coast. I used it to go to Brissy, but there is a turn off down the bottom of the mountain to the GC. I have never done this though.

Heading north from the Shire I always use the M7/2 - always a good start to the trip rather than dealing with the rat race. Well worth the $$$.

Probably a tank and a half-2 tanks. It's not a long way really...I that same trip in an old EA once...never had a problem.
Obviously just give it a decent once over when you do the service, check tyres etc are all ok. Might be handy to have a spare belt with you, things like that.

Do it regularly, gotta love that Qld golf. Almost all of the above advice, make sure you take a basic tool kit plus jack etc, that guarantees nothing will go wrong. [ Murphy's Law]. Our EB2, loaded + 3 kids uses 1.5 tanks app to Gold Coast, always less than two, usually top up near Grafton if the fuel price is reasonable. If you want a scenic trip [daylight] try the New England as suggested but turn right at Tenterfield to get to the Coast via Casino and Lismore. Quicker than crossing the border first then heading over to the coast via the mountains. Fuel is usually reasonable at Casino, but you may want to add some before then. Roads both ways are the best they've ever been apart from some small sections, huge areas of black spots have been bypassed in recent years, especially on the North/Far North Coast. Pay attention to the speed camera signs, they aren't dummies!

ok just got back from the trip.......used about 3 and a half tanks of fuel......did over 2000ks.....didnt have any problems....straight foward trip but missed couple turns lol......
