Default Heater pipe advice

Hello everyone. New to these forums and new to AU's. Bought an AUII wagon a few months ago and been lovin it so far, big step up from the old EL.

Had a few problems with it, auto rebuilt and radiator replaced under warranty.

Thought I was on top of the cooling system but its still using water, seems to be leaking from the heater pipe at the rear of the water pump.

After searching the forum it seems to be common problem. Whats the easiest way of fixing this? Taking the water pump off or can I get at it from behind by taking the heater pipe out?

taking that heater pipe off can be a tad tricky as there are a few bracket holding in place, one under the extractors. i normally use sealant to stop leaks, works at least for a while

So go for taking the water pump off?

The consensus seems to be the o ring goes, I wouldn't be able to get sealant in there.

I'm abit surprised its just a push fitting, no clamps or anything.

It's a pretty tight push fitting though ... and the water pump is bolted in quite well.

id remove the water pipe and water pump, as i said before it will require removing extractors and it will be pretty tricky.

last time i had to use a set of strap down ratchets to brake the water pipe out as it was nicely rusted in

Read your manual , pull the rad , serpintine alenator brackets loose and lay it down then pull the pump , you will need a soft hammer to help the pipe losse , add a new o ring and some silastic around it and assemble making sure you oull the pipe fully forward and install a new pump gskt after cleaning the mating surfaces , takes some time but it's worth it , check the heater change over under the inlet manifold for rust as well.

Thanks everyone, dosn't sound like a real easy job so I might watch it for a few days till I'm absolutly sure thats where its coming from.
