EA,EB,ED and EL are 60 pin

EF and AU are 106 pin

So the answer is basically NO.

EB2 if it is smartlock so you need a smartlock computer, I don't think a 3.9L came with smartlock.

So the ef computer wont work at all ok

and the ea computer wont work because of smartlock? do you need smartlock? is there anyway around it?

the reason im asking is because my mech is out getting a new engine and he suggested getting another 3.9 engine so i dont have to change the computer. but i would rather a newer engine if im going to all the trouble of changing engines.

and the reason for changing the engine is because the bottom guide on the timing chain is broken and he said your better off getting a new engine the fixing the one i have. this is after i paid him $300 for replacing the timing chain :(

Oh ok i get you now

You can run any engine you want from EA to AU (au is a little bit of work) and use the 3.9L computer

I run an EA auto 3 speed ecu, 4speed trans controller and an EF motor in my EA series 1.

Yes, thats correct, you may choose to go serpentine if selecting an ef/el motor to drop in as well, plenty of threads on this subject if you do a search.

Serpentine gives you 1 belt that self tensions, a 110amp alternator, you would need thermos fans, other then that not much.

May be worth clarifying, if your going to run an EL motor for example on the 3.9 ECU, you need to use the EA sensors, and inlet manifold.

You can use the BBM manifold (I have) just leave the runner switching disconnected and you make the same power as you would with an EA manifold, and I did plug all my EA sesnors in just to be sure it would all work.

Well heres the scoop, i didnt need to replace the engine thank god, some bearing was completely stuffed and the mech thought the cause of the rattlerling was the timing chain but he has fixed that and changed my water pump cause it was very corroded so all up it was $420 to fix. (much better then $1000 for a whole new engine)

But with the Serpentine conversion can i do that on my 3.9? with the ef/el intake thats the BBM manifold isnt it? Would i need to change anything else when changing over the parts? like ecu ect

I tried a serpentine with my 3.9L the crank is different, I ended up with alot of grinding to get it all set up then 30seconds after starting my engine died, would not start and could shoot flames out the throttle body, put an EF motor in to fix that problem.

So try it at your own risk.

The BBM can still be fitted to an EA motor though, gives you more access to the coil and dizzy, otherwise no big deal.

Well from your story im not going to do that lol!

great so the BBM will just go on no problems so i would need to get a ef/el airbox? and would i get anymore power doing that conversion?

Like you need more room in an EA, the EA manifold design is a marvel of mechanical science.

It would almost be easier if the EA dissy was in the sump.

Agree with that, I think it was designed by a blind russian contorsionist, it is certainly not a maintenance friendly bit of engineering.

Just keep in mind people if you do the serpentine belt conversion with a eb style inlet manifold your up for a new belt tensioner and there not cheap.

It would be OK if they moved the oil filter, and the crossmember, and the dumb front square bar, and the water pipe, the stupid bracket to hold said manifold, and the AC compressor. I could live with the rest.
