Default V8 radiator into 6

quick question, will a v8 radiator bolt straight into 6 engine bay or are some modificatations required. is this a worthwhile change over?

awesome. Do you happen to have the part number for the sprint radiator? and did you buy it from ford? the reason i ask, is i work at coventrys, and can get hold of a v8 radiator cheaper than i can get it through ford

Nice! What's the difference between the XR8 & Sprint radiators? I thought they were all the same. So if they are different, i would assume the EBGT's have the same radiator as the Sprints?

I would have thought there would be a V8 version, and a I6. A sprint didn't have "that" much more power.

All our system lists is a v8 version and I6 version, and normally we stock all the different forms. so im guessing there isnt a sprint only version

yeap when I got mine done I had a choice of a $170 version or a $270. I took the later, one thing IMO you dont risk on a I6 is the cooling system.

my engine overheats with my aircon running, but runs normal with it of. its an 88 EA. did the EA II have a radiator change? also would the the V8 radiator benifit the engine with the aircon running?

Hmm not sure about that.

What I do know is that my EL is a million times better at handling the heat that my previous EA's. Even with air con on full its never gone past half way.

According to Aus Muscle Car mag, the EB XR6 has a V8 radiator too.

I am assuming this a 3 row rad, as opposed to a 2 row rad in the standard 6.

Anyone cornfirm this?

I've had a genuine EB I6 and genuine V8 radiator side by side, and it appears the only difference between them is the number of fins per inch - the V8 one has more, which means better cooling, and it does make a difference.

According to the prices I got from ford the V8 one is a little cheaper as well. Go figure.

NeedaXYGT - I'd be looking at the cooling system as a whole rather than just the radiator - get a new thermostat, pull out the radiator and flush it, clean all the junk out from between the radiator and the condensor, and check the clutch fan is still fairly stiff to move by hand.

These cars didn't overheat new, which means that if they start to overheat it's from a worn or malfunctioning part, rather than ford just not doing their homework.

thanks for the tips, but all that has been done. i just need another 40deg day to test it. the thermostat that was in it (iv had the car for 2 weeks) was fine and workin properly. i got one that opens up a little more and the engine could proberly do with a little more heat in it now. i had the aircon going yesterday but it wasnt realy hot. it didnt get past a third on the gauge, which is great.

Since about 3 years back - I got ford spare parts to bring a brand new factory ford V8 and an I6 radiator, and I compared them side by side, and they are the same, except the V8 one has more fins per inch than the I6 one, and last I checked, is slightly cheaper.

So is say a el v8 radiator a bettter option than an ED v8 radiator?

and another quick question, are the hoses used the same? or do you need to make up custom hoses to go from radiator to engine?

i was considering doing this as my car was over heating a little with the I6 radiator. took it to a radiator specialist and the result was that is was 50% blocked.
