Default Dash Lights

I have an EF Ghia and the dash lights are starting to fail.
The radio lights have dulled and the Trip metre light has
gone all together. Are these replacable? Or do i need to get
a new dash.
Thanks for any help

Cheers Rod

not too sure about the radio lights, but the trip metre light is a common thing for the EFs. its a bit of a pain in the *** to fix tho. you gotta remove the gauge cluster and its a small wedge globe and holder in one. couple of bucks from ford i think, not sure if anyone else sells them.

I think the cluster ones are fairly easily replaced, but I don't know about the rest.

the radio ones i don't know about, but i don't think they're easily replaceable (besides pulling the unit apart)
the trip computer and cluster etc ones are very easy, i'd just buy replacements from ford.
or even consider doing the coloured LED conversion for something a bit different.

where do you get these coloured dah lights from and what colours? I assume they are just direct replacement globes.

from what i understand u *can* get direct replacement LED's for this use, but i'm not sure how good they are.
there is a docco on fordmods.com on how to make them yourself, its pretty easy if you've used a soldering iron before.
i've done mine a few times and i keep swapping colours.

this is what its like as of yesterday.

Damn EFFalcon, that looks sweet as! I was thinking of replacing the globes in my ED dash with red ones, as the numbering is already orange, I think it would really stand out.

red works well in EA-ED.
Thanatos has it in his EA (everywhere) and its a big improvement.

Thanks alot everyone. I think that i might change the colour of the bulbs as it sounds like it may be relativerly easy. Ive always wanted a blue colour but have never had a reason to pull it apart. Might just upgrade the radio and that will solve my other problem

cheers

If they're all failing it sounds like you may have a loose wire somewhere. Are any of the other lights in/on the car dimming? If so, maybe your battery/alt is on the way out?

At the moment it is only the trip metre light that has completly gone. The rest of the dash lights are still working. One panel of the radio is duller than the rest.

cheers

Nah, actually the doc was sent to TrueBlueFord before fordmods ever existed.
The same guy Matti wrote the doc, as he was being asked by people visiting TrueBlueFord how it was done after they saw it on his car on the site.

I think Fordmods kinda grew from there.

I've use the true-blue doc, and my own knoledge to update the Lamps on my AU II utes LCD back-light globes. Used 3mm hi-intensity LEDs (Green for the ute). Also have 5mm white LEDS that I will use to update the Dash lights with.

Cheers,
Stephen

dash lights being funny, is usually a sign that your BEM is on the way out.
