Ford lifts wraps of all-new Mondeo

October 18 2012

All-new Mondeo showcases new global design language
Mondeo is first model built on Ford’s new global CD-segment platform
Newest member of the Ford family adopts the distinctive One Ford design DNA

Ford Australia will today unveil the all-new Mondeo at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The company has secured a North American-styled Fusion – which is the twin of the all-new Mondeo - as one of its key ‘showroom’ vehicles on the Ford stand inside the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Fusion showcases the company’s new design language and some of the connectivity technologies to be available in Europe.

The other vehicle being showcased in the ‘showroom’ inside is the all-new EcoSport SUV.

The ‘showroom’ vehicles – EcoSport and Mondeo - provide showgoers with a strong visual connection to Ford’s new global design language as well as underpin powertrain and in-car connectivity technologies that will appear on future Fords.

Built on Ford’s new global CD-segment platform, the newest version of the Mondeo closely shares its visual cues with the Fusion.

The newest member of the Ford family adopts the distinctive One Ford design DNA that has already been revealed in the 2013 Fiesta and EcoSport. Apart from its stylish exterior, the Mondeo will be equipped with a range of engines, including Ford’s EcoBoost lineup and SYNC connectivity.

Ford’s new global design language informs the all-new Mondeo’s refined, elegant, sporty and highly expressive exterior. The low roofline enhances the sports coupe profile while retaining a spacious and practical interior. In selected markets the car will be available with a retractable panoramic glass roof.

The lean side-profile is sculpted to convey “visual lightness”, while the sophisticated and technical front end design features Ford’s new, more prominent trapezoidal grille, a power-dome bonnet and segment-first adaptive, full LED headlights.

Mondeo introduces a number of high-tech features and is the first Ford to feature headlights with LED high-beam, low-beam and signal lighting. Quicker to illuminate, more durable and more energy-efficient than traditional filament bulb headlights, the all-new Mondeo’s LED headlights turn with the steering and adapt beam projection to vehicle speed – providing a greater depth of illumination at high speeds and a wider field of vision at slower speeds.

As with the Ford Focus and recently launched Focus ST performance hatch, the Mondeo will also be available with Ford’s SYNC connectivity system. SYNC is Ford’s voice-activated hands-free in-car communications and entertainment system for mobile phones and digital media players that allows the driver to make and receive calls and play music from digital devices.

In Europe the Mondeo will be available with SYNC and MyFord Touch, a voice-activated in-car connectivity system that delivers a high-resolution colour touchscreen. This will enable
drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road while controlling phone and media player functions from connected devices, as well as the vehicle’s climate control, radio and CD-player, and navigation system, using voice commands.

At its European debut last month in Amsterdam, the all-new Mondeo also showcased Ford’s rear inflatable seatbelts.

These are designed to reduce head, neck and chest injuries for rear-seat passengers. In the event of an accident the belt rapidly expands to disperse crash forces across a body area five times greater than that achieved by a conventional seatbelt.

With a combination of high levels of active and passive safety, connectivity and EcoBoost engines, the Mondeo will be warmly welcomed into the Ford Australia passenger car family.

Full Australian specifications and features of the all-new Mondeo will be revealed closer to launch.
