Default Upgrade suggestions for my 2010 Mondeo

Hey,

I'm looking at getting some suggestions/ideas of what kind of mods/upgrades I can do to a 2010 TDCI MB Mondeo.

Everything will be carefully considered! Throw me your ideas.

Cheers in advance everyone.

(Pic attached is my Moondust Silver Mondeo I affectionately named Dusty. :-) )

Hey, I'm looking for both. It definitely won't be stock by the time it is done.

Appearance wise I am planning on getting a pair of projector headlights. I'm thinking a smal bonnet lip I'm not sure what else. I want it to still look sleek and clean.

Performance wise I'm planning to upgrade the suspension and exhaust system and could do with suggestions for both. Any other performance upgrade suggestions or anything are very welcome.

I am not the most mechanically minded and this is my first car I've absolutely loved and want to put money in.

Thanks for your reply,

Crystal

Is that your car in the picture?
As that is an MC Mondeo, not an MB Mondeo.

Hey,

Yes It is. There is confusion between it being mb or mc. When I bought it, it was advertised as 2010 (MY11) MB Mondeo. When they were registering it for me they noticed that it migh be 2011 ford mondeo but they checked and assured me it is mb.

It's build date is late 2010 I'm assuming it ended up selling in 2011.

I got home and checked redbook because Yeah it was really confusing. The minor differences (manual real windows, difference in instrument cluster compared to 'mc' but when registered it came back as 2011 Mc.

We called insurance company and informed them, they told us to give them the VIN and we did, and they informed us it is a 2010 ford mb.

So I'm not 100% sure. I'very attatched photo of cluster.

What is the difference you noticed in the photo that made you believe it's an MC? As its a confusing to me I'd love to know what it actually is. (Even more confusing, it came with an MC booklet)

MC production started in the last few months of 2010, those cars are considered MY11 still. My MC has a November 2010 build date.

I had a range of mods in mind when I was considering purchasing an LX Mondeo, though since I ended up finding a Titanium they all pretty became much moot...

1. Retrofit DRLs - either OEM or Chinese copies off ebay to fit the spaces covered with plastic blanks. Easy and worthwhile for the safety aspect.

2. Aftermarket wheels - I like the slim spoke designs for that touring car racer look (also motivated by wanting a proper spare).

3. New head unit with multimedia screen - probably an Eonon unit from ebay.

4. Rear parking camera integrated into head unit display.

I've missed my chance to really do any of these, but maybe I can live vicariously if you choose to do any of them

BTW that's a nice photo you have at the top - great lighting. Cute number plate also.

Bluetooth OBD permanently plugged in the data link connector and software on the phone.

Steel wheels tyres are deeper and give a better ride on country roads.

Is there any evidence DRLs are safer?

From what I've been able to find, it seems studies are conflicted on whether there is a measurable safety benefit or not (for example). Those that claim the greatest benefit tend to come out of the gloomiest parts of Europe. But I think the industry has standardised on the notion that if it doesn't hurt, and may actually benefit, then it's worthwhile having it, which is why it's standard on practically every new car now (plus the opportunities to style a distinctive face for the brand). In my opinion having DRLs on (or low beams if you are without) definitely make the car more conspicuous, which can only be good.

There's truth in what you say and I probably didn't value this enough... Having just ridden in my Mondeo after breaking my collarbone, I was cringing and cursing the stiff ride...

Seems about right. Driving today at 11 am I notice sun reflections as strong if not stronger than drls, but drls would be more prominent morning and late afternoon.

I sometimes have drl envy but when it gets down to fashion it it doesn't seem to gel with steel wheels and insect collections on the mesh grille protector.

My main fear is lane departure. Let's have more of that sort of warning.

Just my impression with steel rims giving a smoother ride. I drive the same route in a zetec and an LX, LX does feel a lsmoother.

Not as good as the ef Falcon, nor as scary

It doesn't just ride better on the 16s, but the steering is also better.

A tyre guru told me that the standard suspension was designed to work with 16s, and you really need the sports suspension for the larger wheels to work properly. After my experience with 17s, I think he may be right.

I have a set of MAK 16" wheels from Italy that replaced the 17" Ford Y-spoke wheels.

Maybe flying at 10000ft your exhaust is innoffensive without DPF.

My children breathe exhaust at ground level, so I feel better with DPF.

DPF has been reliable so far, no change in fuel economy over three years, I'd be more worried about heart failure.

I would recommend a custom tune, good tyres & suspension adjustment.

I've put in an aftermarket intercooler but think it was more hassle than anything else, sure I'll have more stable temps but how often do I drive on the limit needing that....

The mondeo will never be a race car, so replacing exhausts and the like is pretty pointless, the stock units flow ok, only a small gain compaired to the best bang from a custom tune where I grabbed +30kw. It doesn't blow smoke, it's not loud, noone would know to look at it. Perfect.

I was also getting excessive rear tyre scrubbing, had some good people modify the stock setup and handling now is superb. Add some sticky tyres and the more I drive it, the more I enjoy it :-)
