Default XR6 motor

Hey Guy's

Q1
Looking at a tickford motor out of a ED XR6 for my Fairmont. Just wondering what price i should be paying. I am looking for one with between 100,000 and 150,000km's, what should i be paying for a long motor

Q2
Is it worth fiting it with a AU head gasget before it goes in,

Q3
Does the clutch fan slow you done that much as people say, or should i fit a EL twin termo (spelling)

Thanks Tom

q2- keep driving it until it does need it.

q3- they ran 15's from factory without thermos.

If your budget allows you too and you want to run good times, get some thermos ;)

Id pay no more than $80, im sure you could find them cheaper. Cant tell you how much of a difference they would make, but i can tell you they will make a difference. at a guess on a 1/4 time the diff they would make (provided they are switched off when you run) i would say 0.05, thats my guess.

thermos are ok if you have a stronger alternator,,what you gain is minimal but the drain on the electrics can be fatal.

i had thermos with my ed motor and never had any problems.

i would highly recommend fitting an AU motor. pm me if you have questions. its well worth fitting one, and you have a good chance of getting one with lowish k's

is there much difference form a EF motor and a ED tickford, would a EF motor go better with a tickford head,

mainly after a new motor thats going to go and be nicer on fuel then the 3.9, but maily want the 4.0 and i belive its a better motor and want less km's

I wouldnt be so concerned with an ED XR6 motor, it only has a few more kw than an EF or EL, and the only difference is the head anyway.
So best bet is to find a low kms EL motor, if you use your intake manifold it will be a straight swap. Some minor mods are required to get an AU motor in, but if you're prepared to do them then consider that instead.

speaking to the wreakers they recomend that i get a AU xr6 motor, and they want $1000 for one, or am i better off getting a EF and try to get a ported head for it or even a tickford head.

just wana get rid of the crappy 3.9 i think its slowing me down, correct me if im wrong but the 4.0 is alot better on fuel and reves alot better, was looking for a tickford motor so i dont have to do head work as it can be quite expancive.

eb91xr6 - if you decide on an ef or el motor, you may need to investigate if you need to get the ac lines from the tx valve to the compressor. i believe the connection on the compressor may not fit your existing ac lines.
