hey guys i was just wondering what are your opinions on either putting a full xr50 body kit on my car (costing over 2k) or having it lowered a bit? at the moment i am leaning toward lowering it because of the price and the advantages that it gives to the car, ie handling.
any opinions much appreciated Krakey

I'd be lowering it. They look ok as it is without a kit.

I'd be lowering it first for sure. I'd go the kit later on, after you've sussed out the numerous options available.

Definately lowering. Lowered cars without bodykits look good. Kitted cars with stock suspension look crap. Ideally lowered with bodykit is the way to go.
btw krakey, I had the same avatar on another forum, but mine was animated. Hypnotoad ftw!

i thought it was a bit high..... The reason the guy said it was so expensive was because of the irs. AU2PWR are your superlows irs?

yea true that but only problem is is that performance shops are few and far between out here in the country sticks.... might have to do a trip up to melb. Has anyone bought irs king springs recently and for how much?

I put a set of lovells superlows and koni reds to match for around $1K and there is no comparison to how it used to handle and looks 10x better to boot

krakey if you want the full handling advantages of lowering you need to fit the shocks to match the shorter springs. And I'd have the caster & camber checked at the next wheel alignment to see if an adjustable camber/caster kit is needed.

Hiya Krakey I notice that your car is an XR6, I had mine lowered for $400 bucks at Bob Jane because they looked up the standard XR6 shocks and the book stated that they are fine for lowering. I must admit that I didn't go superlows, just lowered it a further inch. IMO have a chat with a suspension specialist (obviously you could do that over the phone) and see what they have to say. I originally went to Pedders and whilst they tried to sell me the "whole package" they also confirmed that the XR6 shocks are fine. So thanks to an interest free credit card my car was lowered with new tyres and mags.

The ride is a bit rough (particularly here in BrisVegas with the roads the way they are) however never having had a car lowered before I cannot accuratley comment on just "how" rough. Mate I'm 40 yrs old and ex Army/sporty person so I carry a few injuries and frankly I don't feel any aches or pains . Been lowered for about 18 months now and I haven't noticed any excess rattles that you could expect if the car was getting knocked around. I guess you get what you pay for Krakey but I am very happy with the ride and the handling. The only time I really notice the rough ride is when I have a full tank of petrol and four people in the car. I suppose it comes down to your budget. Mate with a lazy grand in the sky rocket I'd go the whole hog but I really cannot complain, you just learn where the pot holes are Good luck with your decision.

i got mine lowered at pedders, they put new springs in all around and new rear shortened shocks in aswell as a check on all the other components and a wheel alignment for around $750. The pedders guy wasn't talking much more $$$ for an irs setup so $800 fitted with new rear shocks is an alright benchmark i'd say. handles awesom too.

Forget the bigger rims. Lower it. Once it's sitting low you wont need to fill the wheel arches. Cheeper to do and Cheaper to run.
