i've got the opportunity to get an EDXR6 ecu for my ED, is it worth it?
would i be better off with an EF ecu? recommendations and advice? whats the best performing FORD ecu for auto 4.0i?

Unless you have 3:45 diff ratio the ED XR6 ecu will give you incorrect gear changes and kickdowns. Wont go that well basicly. But it does allow you to run a larger cam.
You only need a Tickford XR ECU if your going to have 3:45 or a lumpier cam. if your not going to have either for a long time I wouldnt bother. unless its dirt cheap

the xr computer was a stash for later thing yes but i hadnt considered the diff ratio.
does that same theory apply to my current ecu if i changed the diff?

Forget EF/EL ecu's as well. The EF wont plug in, and the EL is tuned for a different manifold. XR ECU's are also tuned for different fuel pressure and will run leaner with stock fuel reg (not a bad thing). I personally wouldnt bother switching between the stock ecu's unless a better one fell in my lap.
