There are only 2 of us in the house and we have gas hot water and hotplate.
Both work full time so nothing on through the day.
Big house with ducted air but we used to have 2 split systems which we took out for the ducted.
I am tempted to tell them to shove everything and go off the grid at this rate.
I'll shop daily and use eskies and cheap ice, cook on the BBQ, shower at work, recharge the phones and iPads in the car. I'll show em!!! It will come to this for sure at this rate.
Far out !! One of your neighbours hasn't run a lead over the fence and tapped in eh...........

had a close too 900 dollar bill here too , although that was some time ago, and we had a different supplier then (gave them the two fingered salute), maybe you can find a better supplier/vendor too ???

regardless, its hard to escape the thieving ******, you find a cheaper one , eventually the sods will up the price.

Going back to the article this concept is not new it has been happening for years.

Look at your bill, the more power you use the higher the cost per step is.

Step 1 cheapest, step 2 middle, step 3 most expensive.

Interesting article

Is the solar rebate still on? If so, whats stopping someone claiming solar rebate, getting the install done, then unplugging the setup from the grid, and going off-grid altogether?

Stand alone solar uses a different inverter than on grid plus it need all the batteries. You'd need enough battery reserve to last 3-4 days to allow for overcast winter days. The upshot is that on grid might cost $7K where as stand alone will still cost $20k+ to do it properly.

I see Tesla (leading electric car manufacture) has just made batteries to run your house on?

Solar during the day (no one home) charging batteries

Batteries at night (off the grid)

They want to be careful as tech gets better, there will be alternatives

Cheers

our water bill has been 150 bucks
we just hooked a pump up to our rain water tank so we are now on rain water for the entire house
im interested to see how much the water bill drops by and how much the power bill increases
the way elec prices are going it might be cheaper to pay the water bill from mains water and not run an elec pump!
ill find out when both bills come thru next qtr
