Apologies if already posted (I did do a search) but was told yesterday Bruce Mcphee passed away at 92. Wikipedia also have him as passed away.

For those that may be unaware, Bruce McPhee died aged 92 (top innings imho) and won the '68 Bathurst 1000, albeit in a HK Monaro, sponsored by Wyong Motors(local bloke for me)
Tis interesting to think back to the days where someone nearing their 50's could win "the GREAT Race" I woulder how many 50 year olds would be capable of driving a V8 supercar these days, let alone win such an event. RIP Bruce. |

Prob should add that his 1968 win as a privateer was the first win ever Bathurst win for Holden

After driving the monaro from Wyong creek to the track and winning the 68 bathurst race he then turned to ford for the 69 race driving a GTHO PH1 for Harley Kloster from Klosters newcastle,he drove the silver fox GT without a roll cage believe it or not and chose his own michelin tyres and was winning the race with not long to go by 6 minutes and was hit by a wayward mini.
That set him a date for a lenghthy pitstop which cost him the race. In 1970 he joined team Ford and came in second as he deliberately held back to let Moffat take the win with a crippled car as he was Fords main man. So for a bit of bad luck and respect he had nearly bagged 3 bathursts in a row in his 50,s,not bad for a non profressional driver. He also lapped the 69 GTHO P1 quicker than any body lapped the GTHO P2 the following year. R.I.P Bruce

He was a master at powerslides too,drove them like he stole em,
i think he was as good as Brock and Moffat in his day
